Hey, just coming to put some questions forward to various theists, if some of these questions don't apply to your beliefs, cool.

1) Let us alter Pascals wager slightly, given that there are many religions, quite a few of which have a reward/punishment system for post death experience is it not worthwhile to objectively study each religion? IE shouldn't all people that really and truly believe analyze their own faiths with all the dilligence of the most vicious opponent of their faith? After all, your immortal soul could be on the line.

2) Given that humanity is imperfect how can we be sure that any religious texts are correct? Even assuming some kind of inspiration there are inevitably going to be translation errors or simple misunderstandings as contexts and languages evolve and shift. Also, some changes could be made for political or personal reasons, or simple human error when copying pages during the time of scribes. I ask how you can be sure of any holy texts, and what sort of tests we could use to verify their accuracy.

3) Is it possible that the 'true' religion might be dead? IE the worship of Mithras, Sol Invictus, or any number of ancient gods and goddesses or powerful primal entities could be the actual true deities but for whatever reason the pretenders to the throne, IE the fables made up by some other group turned out to be more popular/successful and people simply attribute the attempts of these beings to contact them as the work of their own deities or pantheons or the enemy thereof.

1.  The Lord was excepted readily by the Judean's/Jews, but the false jew, whom had control over His Word at the time, did not hear His Word {{ John 8th Chapter}} where our Lord explained how they the false jew could not hear His Word/truth due too them being sown by the devil/born of the devil!  In Ezra 9:1-2 He explains how any mingled of God seed and the heathen are not of His truth, they are strange children saith the Lord!  Rev:2:9-3:9 explains that there are those who say they are jews and are not but do LIE!  In the book of acts, and in the book of Amos the Lord and His prophets point directly at the false jew!  So the 1000's who believed who were/are the true Judeans, proved Him as Lord God!

God is an entity possessing one or more infinite attributes - omnipotence, omniscience, omni-benevolence, etc.  Let us assume, for the sake of argument, that these infinite attributes are composed of discrete units, each unit being enough of God to produce and sustain one human-like creation.

God: 1  2  3  4  5  -> ∞

God "spends" one unit to create one person.

God: 2  3  4  5 -> ∞

Dudes: 1

This does not diminish God at all.  God still has an infinite number of these units to spend.  It doesn't matter how many people God creates, there's still an infinite number of units left over.

God: 193 -> ∞

Dudes: 192

This is true even if God spends an infinite number of units to create another entity possessing one or more infinite attributes or to create an infinite number of human-like persons. Infinity never runs out.  This leads us to one of three conclusions:

1) God is not infinite.  In which case, why worship something as God that is merely more powerful than we currently are?  Someday, our power may very well rival or outstrip a God of this type.

Actual serious question. If there is a thread already about this, point it out to me please.

No bible talk please, too many words wasted on something that is so easy to debunk already. I mean why is the concept of God so prevalent in human nature? I would guess no other animals, even the ones who can communicate to some degree, have gods the way we do, so does that mean it is a verbal thing? A verbal meme?

I would have liked to ask this in the Redemption thread, but I think he's been scared off.

Children need the guidance of parents, maybe there are some non enlightened adults who need that kind of parenting?

I would like atheists to consider that this God inspiration thing might be necessary in some. I consider the atheist to be a mature self contained perspective, but what about those that don't have the facilities? What would you recommend to replace the damaging religions and gullible sheep?

I don't think it is enough to simply say, stop believing. Some truly aren't able to be accountable for themselves. What can they replace this "parentage" with, if they do not have the proper intellect or self awareness to be responsible?

As RRS people, I think it is incumbant on us to try and find an alternative. Personally, I tried going to a Buddhist temple for meditation and learning, but I found it a bit too deistic.

Anyway, just random thoughts.

  In John 10:10 the Lord explains to us that satan/death is the thief, and destroyer and killer/murderer, and tells us that He has/had come to bring us again Life and that we might have it more abundantly!  Evangelicals and catholics, and mormons, and Theologists 99% percent state that He meant life of riches and full of love and joy, yet our Lord makes it clear in all books that He came and fought the spirit of death and Has sent us the keys / code for the now end of Sickness and premature death!  He our Lord has contacted me, as proven by the posts in this What some call trollville and others call their only venue here too reach those who are missing their Great purpose and Destiny...This is the most Epic era of earths existance...So as our Lord has commanded me, "i" also am come that ye might have Life and have it now even more abundantly living centuries instead of Decades!  In Matthew 20:16 our Lord states So the Last shall be first and the first last!  Many who "i" contact here have the opportunity to become one of Gods first on earth and in Heaven!  This is a very special generation, we all have increased knowledge availble too learn and availble to use it too now destroy premature death and sickness, a disease Adam and Eve contracted in the Bible/Garden...So as the Lord entered taverns, and parties too bring forth from there those who are called...

I had a christian acquaintance I was discussing religion with. I let her know I did not believe in God, but we were actually discussing Dianetics. I told her about some of the strange things they think are true.

She got this considering look on her face. "Isn't it interesting the things people will do trying to get a relationship with God?" She said to me pointedly.

I howled with laughter. Conversation over. Hilarious. It may have been the first time a fundamental Christian defended a Scientologist. Do you get the subtext? She was saying, basically, yes, Tom Cruise is strange, but at least he isn't an atheist!
