Framing Jesus Camp
Submitted by mindcore on May 10, 2008 - 9:22pm.Framing Jesus Camp
This blog is about Becky Fischer of Jesus Camp fame.
First let me say truthfully Becky Fischer is a genius. I love her.
When I did children’s ministry I would have sold my soul to the Devil to be like
Becky Fischer.
I am a big fan of Meme theory as proposed by Susan Blackmore. Meme theory states that ideas which spread among organisms work in an evolutionary manner analogous to
natural selection.
Religion is the favorite example of nearly all memeticists.
Becky Fischer may not believe in memes, and she may not even know what that word means, but she is one of the world’s memetic engineers.
Becky is not evil, at least I don’t think so. No, Becky is a very talented communicator who specializes in children.
If Becky embraced secular education as her muse for her fantastic talents, we would all be sending her money begging her not to stop.

Creflo Dollar
Submitted by mindcore on May 10, 2008 - 7:13pm.I’m listening to Creflo Dollar, right now. Trying to get inspired and ready for the preaching segment of my podcast.
If you haven’t listened to the podcast yet, first of all you are ruining your life by missing this badass podcast; second I need to inform you that I use all the tricks of Pentecostal preachers as Pentecostal preachers taught them me.
I godlessly speak in tongues to show its nothing more than a performance, and nothing supernatural at all.
Creflo Dollar is a black dude, and he is well received in the black community. This guy though, is no Reverend Wright. He is 100% establishment. Creflo Dollar is part of the up and coming black religious right.
But that would be bottling him in.
I have an affinity for villains, I love them. It’s hard to explain, when I see villains I admire them like living works of art, they are simply beautiful to me.
Creflo Dollar is a villain.
He chiefly preaches that poverty is no excuse to not give him money.
But he does this so masterfully, so gently, its like getting fucked in the ass with Novocain for lubricant.
You don’t feel a single sting.
God: The Failed Hypothesis, Interview with author Victor Stenger
Submitted by mindcore on May 10, 2008 - 2:17pm.I am glad to say that I finally did my blaspheme challenge, it took me long enough.
I did it on this episode while preaching like a pentecostal preacher and speaking in tongues. Enjoy.
And if you haven't lost your soul yet join me in denying the holy spirit.

Acts of kindness: Week One
Submitted by Renee Obsidianwords on May 10, 2008 - 11:10am.Every week I am going to share ideas and thoughts on a campaign to spread kindness. I do this as a validation that you don't have to believe in a god to be 'nice' and 'friendly' not to mention make a positive impact in peoples lives. Beyond sharing ideas, I will be following each weeks focus through journal entries and sharing a recap of my experience at the weeks end.
Here is the focus for the week of 5-12-2008:
Be Kind to all You Associate With this week.
First lets look at a few definitions of 'Kind'
American Heritage:
- Of a friendly, generous, or warm-hearted nature.
- Showing sympathy or understanding; charitable: a kind word.
- Humane; considerate: kind to animals.
- Forbearing; tolerant: Our neighbor was very kind about the window we broke.
- Generous; liberal: kind words of praise.
- Agreeable; beneficial: a dry climate kind to asthmatics

New Podcast Episode: Sexy, Sextacular, Sex
Submitted by mindcore on May 7, 2008 - 5:00pm.why we shouldn't care if we can be "certain" or not
Submitted by Tilberian on May 7, 2008 - 12:42pm.I'm a little bit proud of this post I made in a discussion thread, so I'm going to throw it on here. I was answering Textom's point that we can't support the following statements deductively:
-There is no evidence that God exists, therefore he does not.
-The only possible rational conclusion is that God does not exist.
-God cannot be described, therefore he does not exist.
Here's my response:
This frustrates me, and it's arguments along this line that have kept atheists dancing to the theist tune for a long time. Whenever we water down our rhetoric and kowtow to these niggling philosophical word games we accomplish nothing politically except to give theists hope that they have some loophole and to confuse fence-sitters into thinking we're losing the argument.
I think there is a difference between philosophical speech and political speech and this, being an activist website, tends to have a lot of political speech. Philosophical speech may be about what is strictly true, and therefore needs to be very precise and careful and technical — similar to scientific speech. But political speech is supposed to address that which motivates us to action. And the fact of the matter, from the perspective of behaviour and real, living beliefs, is that all of those statements are true. No one can deny the truth of those statements by advocating their opposite and claim intellectual honesty.

Submitted by mindcore on May 6, 2008 - 11:46am.I am happy to announce that after approximately 3 months of podcast, the Mindcore show has acquired listens from over 1200 unique IP addresses. What does that mean, 1200 computers have gone to my podcast, and hit play.
That is awesome!
I am currently on schedule to graduate in December with a B.S. in neuroscience, and my wife is starting at Regeneron in June in Tarrytown, New York. Tarrytown is a suburb about 45 miles outside of NYC. I am very excited about that. I will follow her there in December.
So for the next 7 months, I'm planning on finishing my short stint in Dallas, TX. very strongly.
I started a vibrant student club at UT Dallas, which is Atheists, Skeptics, and Humanists at UT Dallas, or A.S.H., I have also begun to do fundraising talks at the North Texas Church of Freethought, which is an accomplishment that I am proud of.
I am also hosting a Skeptic's at the Pub meeting at the Absinthe Lounge in Dallas on June 17th.
With any luck I will be attending the CFI student leadership conference in Amherst, New York, this summer on July 17. CFI is a think tank, which I have decided must some day become my employer.
This summer I have a prestigious S.U.R.F. fellowship doing neuroscience research with superstar Kim Huber. Kim Huber is a neuroscientist who works on understanding genetic and epigenetic factors in neuroscience. I am very honored to have this prestigious opportunity.
