Depicting the Prophet Muhammad
*To my muslim readers, please understand that I do not mean this as an insult personally, but that I am opposed to your religion, as I am opposed to all supernatural religion. There are theologies of Islam which I consider better than others. Work by Irshad Manji, and Amina Wadud reveal Islam to have the potential to be the wonderful religion I once thought it was. If you are a muslim and I cannot persuade you to abandon all supernaturalism, then these two authors should be in your future. These wonderful women make Islam into a religion a thousand times safer for the thinking person than christianity is, and if it became the most popular religion in the world under their theological lights, I would have no complaints.
My first time to depict the prophet muhammad for the intention of ridicule was done long before the Iraq war and the tragic contreversy of the Danish cartoons of the prophet.

Carnival of the Godless and more Vox
Submitted by kellym78 on April 5, 2008 - 4:22am.
I am officially announcing that the next Carnival of the Godless will be hosted here, on my blog, beginning April 13. Be on the lookout for that. I have gotten a bunch of good submissions already.
The following is a "response" from a Vox Day fan. It is relatively devoid of anything intelligent, but I address it because everybody cries if I don't.
I have some agreement with your comment. However we are not talking proof here, just a suggestion. Correlation implies causation. It is hypothesis generating.
No, correlation does not imply causation, and a hypothesis should be generated before any experimentation is undertaken. The hypothesis comes from pure observation, and is then proven or not by experimentation. Perhaps you should study the scientific method.
But a brief survey with biases may still be hypothesis generating, it is the more detailed study that confirms or rejects this. And my comment about the onus being on the person denying it is because no matter how good a study is there will always be flaws, and your suggestion allows people to continually say that correlation does not equal causation.

Eupraxsophy: The Word of the Future, Bee-acthes!!!
Don’t forget that on Saturday April, 12 I will be speaking at the North Texas Skeptics meeting on the mind-body problem. Or whether or not a soul exists. If you live in the DFW area, this will be a bad ass meeting.
Its at 2900 Live Oak Street in Dallas.
Please come.
With that said, lets get to business.

Argument from Perfection - If something can be better than something else, how can there not be something perfect?
Submitted by Mazid the Raider on April 4, 2008 - 11:59am.I was recently confronted in my own home... wait, is "confront" the word I want to use? The guy did ask before he came over, and we stayed civil the entire conversation. Perhaps "assaulted" is a better word. No, that implies some level of success on his part as opposed to the flailing, staggering defeat he suffered from a me-originated barrage of pure, unadulterated
reason. Picture a Don-Quixote-versus-Ayers-Rock level fail, and that would be in the general neighborhood.
At any rate, I was confronted at home by a pastor of the denomination to which I belonged. I've debated him before, but this time he decided to come alone. We talked about a number of things, but one argument in particular struck my fancy. His argument was that we can see the differences between superior and inferior cultures because we have a perfect example of god's kingdom in heaven. He said that the only way we could view our society and culture here in America as superior to (and this is his example, mind you) Islamic cultures where women can be murdered for going out without an escort is because we have an ideal example. "It's hard to say what's advanced, it's hard to say that one is higher than another unless you have a standard that your talking about. That's what evolution, I think, lacks" he said smugly.

Submitted by John Paul on April 4, 2008 - 9:50am.i kiss my breath

i get thirsty in my stress
i get hungry in my sin
and i don't know how it will end
all i can do is kiss my breath
CHORUS
i get lost in my mess
i get anxious in my rest
and i don't know when it will end
all i can do is kiss my breath
CHORUS
BRIDGE - i aint got answers i gotta whole lotta questions
