Your favorite video games
I just bought aliens vs. predator, I enjoyed the 1999 release of the same name immensly. It occured to me that others here might game a bit.
So in no particular order I shall name some of of my favorite games.
Star Wars: Jedi Academy
Gothic 1 and 2
The Doom series
The first Aliens Vs Predator as mentioned already.
Resident Evil 1-3
Megaman, all of the early ones.
Ghengis Khan for the old NES, I still have this, just need an old nes to play it.
The Bioshock series.
I guess I would have to say WoW since I played it for 3 years.
System Shock 1-2
The command and conquor series.
I'll think of some more later.

I just finished the old Unreal and datadisk Return to Na Pali. Good old games with low demands on my iron, just what I need!
Now I play Fallout Tactics. I love games like X-Com, (turn-based!!! no rts) and this seems like tough, but decent action. The feeling of outsmarting the enemy is sweet, cpt. Kirk knows.
For example, if the raider thinks that hiding behind rock is smart, my doc with shotgun will crawl to the rock, then stand up and take the raider point-blank. If the raider will stand up first, he'll have a lot to explain to my sniper who provides cover to the doctor. Really, artificial intelligence is maybe rewarding, but a little of artificial stupidity is too.

That would depend on your definition of an expensive rig. I am an overclocker and I see no reason to spend the cash on some expensive thing like an alienware or similar. I just make sure that I select the motherboard/proc/memory combo that will work well together and a good all copper heat sink with lots of heat pipes. Then I tune the rig up as high as I can get it.
For my next rig, I am even considering a low power proc for a laptop and using a thermoelectric cooler.
OK, your friend has the epeen thing going on. Too bad that it is a waste of good cash. My rigs typically last for about three years before I can find a game at retail that it will not run well. Along that time, I will pass through perhaps three graphics cards, something that no console can do BTW.
Anyway, he has paid a boat load of cash for a rig that will play exactly the same games that my rig will for half as much. If he keeps it around as long as I keep my rigs, then there will be a day where he will be able to play the kind of game where publishers expect to get like $60~$80 for where I have to start getting creative with the graphics setting just to get the thing working.
Usually, people who buy those rigs don't keep them around that long though. They have more cash than brains and they are not afraid to prove the matter repeatedly.

Damned straight. It's the exact same thing, over and over, and the plot just doesn't fucking progress at all. I can see doing the same assassination over and over as long as the plot progresses in an interesting manner. Hell, that's all any of the first-person shooters are: the same thing over and over. But at least in the good ones, the plot progresses.
I have heard that Ubisoft learned their lesson, and AC2 is pretty decent. I may give it a shot. If I don't waste the next month of game-playing time playing Resistance 2 on expert.

I'm getting too slow for gaming or something. I seem to be sukin at apb, it's still fun to play but I'm so obviously a casual. I guess WoW really didn't take much skill, I was pretty good at that and swg, I owned many on swg before they borked it.
Assasins Creed was a fairly good looking game but yes, boring and slow. I also do not like the general gameplay style, reminded me of splinter cell, which was better but I still didn't care that much for the way it played.
They did a fine job with apb and all the "twitch" is there, I'm just not twitchy enough I guess. I'm disappointed about it right now though because it was running fine on the early play dates but since official release it has been stuttering badly for me. They claim to know whats up and are supposed to be fixing it, I'm waiting patiently.

Ah yes, but does it include any Zyme?
“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)
I absolutely loved fallout 1 and 2, but tactics was a terrible game. I quit playing part way through. The studio that made it released the game half-finished. The idea of a squad-based game using the SPECIAL stat and skill system is a good one. But that Australian developer that made tactics screwed up on a lot of things.

But FT is awesome, there's so much diversity of situations and uses for various professions. I can fight with all my squad and I do most of the time, or just take Stitch, my doctor who I'm training into a sort of stealth saboteur. With this sneaky doctor and his combat shotgun alone I just wiped out entire field of trenches of supermutants, one at a time, sneak, burst, sneak. With more supermutants together, I just planted a mine or two nearby and shot it off from a distance. Needless to say, supermutants otherwise rather kick my squad's ass in direct combat and are impervious to my snipers.
I love when the game rewards smartness, when the game becomes hard, use your brain and find out new tactics. Of course, I have to say I first read a couple of guides and got some advice on which skills are necessary and which not, so I avoided most of errors in that sense. However, it's possible you forgot that FT is a combat game, while both Fallouts are RPG. In FT combat skills are much more important than civilian and it's worthy to read up on which skills can be easily acquired otherwise - for example by hiring a specialist or reading books.
I admit, I didn't play all of Fallout 1 and 2. At these times we had just one computer and just one of us, brothers could play, others had to watch. So I know both games really very well, but mostly from watching.

I didn't think to mention it yesterday but serious sam is free on steam untill this afternoon. Not really my style but it's kinda fun. Mindless reflex kind of game. I prefer using tactics such as sneaking around using cover etc, this is kinda mindless mobs come at you see how fast you can shoot them, the only tactic* seems to be weapon selection.
It is kinda funny though, you get a chainsaw and can cut down trees and cut monsters in half. But as far as cute sayings it doesn't quite top duke nukem.

Playing Fallen Earth now, post apocolyptic mmo with mild fps elements. I recommend playing the free trial http://www.fallenearth.com/
Hey it's free for two weeks, it's fun and has an interesting plot and the friendliest community I have seen in any mmo. Strangely everyone seems content which again is odd for an mmo.

Currently I'm playing through Final Fantasy 13.
Faves: Final Fantasy 5,6,7,9,10 and Tactics, Doom 3, Fallout 3, Oblivion and Morrowind, Disgaea 3, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 &2, Guitar Hero, Dragon Age:Origins, Zelda series, mainly Ocarina of Time, Resistance, Bioshock, Ninety-Nine Knights, Last Remnant, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Smackdown vs Raw 2009(haven't played 2010 yet), the old Mortal Kombats, Breath of Fire through the fourth one, Parasite Eve, Residet Evil and Silent Hill.
I think I'm gonna stop now, the list will probably go on forever.

I liked final fantasy 3,7,8,9,10,12,13,oblivion,morrowind,Fallout 3
Currently I play System Shock 2. Scary game, really. I'm now adult enough to withstand that. Also, I think before there weren't any patches to make it work on Windows XP.
I play as a psionic, but with great help of basic weapon skills and hacking skills. Pure characters are diffcult. This way I won't use the best weapons or modifications. But top tier psionic skills, meelee weapons and a lot of spare ammo for pistol and shotgun, that's the way to go. The only disadvantage of such a psionic character is the clumsiness of the interface.
A psionic is weak without tactics, he needs a quiet place to rest, buff up strength, maybe conjure a psionic weapon extension, maybe put invisibility on top of that, and quickly mop up the next group of baddies before the magic expires. If the tactics is wrong or slow, death follows. Typical case is listening to what's behind the corner and correct choice of ammo.

I don't play computer games, but that one seems like it might be fun. Right now all I have is my original xbox and a ps3. Playing through Final Fantasy 13 has been pretty boring(sad to say). I'm hoping that when versus 13 comes out it'll be better. Having to wait until next year to play Final Fantasy 14 on my PS3 and lag behind the computer gamers is another frustrating thing.
If anybody out there likes goofy games, look up Disgaea 3, that game is fun as hell, really deep customization, and a really offbeat comedy story. Its a tactical RPG in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics.
If anyone else has good recommendations for computer games that'll play on my laptop Vista 64 with a 2.4 ghz dual core intel, 4 gigs of ram, and a factory video card(not sure what its specs are), I like to play just about anything.

That was an amazing game. SHODAN is my favorite evil AI. There were some serious flaws in the game's design, but its atmosphere is unbeaten in gaming.

I'm playing Resistance 2 now, played the first one and had to have it. Funny how so many video game titles seem to ignore "god" in their plots or make up some new wacky god thing hat has nothing to do with christianity.

Play the new Star Wars game yet? I played the first one but the second one seems like more of the same. I miss Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy.
Everything makes more sense now that I've stopped believing.
I haven't played a lot of games lately, but I've always enjoyed Final Fantasy games and all of the God of War games. I liked the Jak games as well. A little GTA from time to time. Hmmm, all of the Metal Gear games so far. I really liked Clocktower 3. I played the fuck out of Pokemon on my old school Game Boy Pocket. Along with Q-Bert, Kirby, and Mario. Sonic was badass on the Genesis too. Mortal Kombat. I haven't played many new games, but I enjoyed Dante's Inferno. Very God of War-like. I need to get me a PS3 for Xmas, eh?
"Nocturnal majesty, Sworn to black we'll always be."
I'm enjoying this game called "Demon's souls". This game is HARD and if you die and fail you have to start back at the beginning of the level with a weakened character and the mobs get HARDER.
It's amazing.
If your character suffers a death he goes back weakened as a phantom and you must defeat a demon boss or help another player defeat a demon boss to regain your full life. Thing is there is no voice chat and you can only scrawl messages on the ground. A "living" character may summon phantom players to help and the player can rate how well they aided them.
There is more to it but all in all it is the most interesting concept for a game I have played yet.
If you have a ps3, patience and a love for the rpg genre I highly recommend it.
As a side note it's a real shame about APB, it didn't really take long for a totally skill based fps pay per month game to fail though. I knew it would either totally fail or it would be left with a small group of skilled players. People like myself that enjoy fps but are not that good probably wont stick around long even though that customization was freakin awesome. They took the servers down, R.I.P neat game.
