Christianity: The default religion
Submitted by heike6 on January 2, 2008 - 1:47am.An undeniably large percentage of Americans identify themselves as christian. I think the numbers are skewed. They are skewed because many people check christian by default.
To start off, how many christians really take the bible literally? It is the basis of their religion, but they blatantly disregard parts of it. "Oh, that doesn't apply to me, but I'm still Christian." People believe that "Jesus" was the son of "God". Where do they get that idea? I hope not the bible. Is that the only part they took seriously? Nah, they probably learned this from their pastor or someone similar. If they say it is true, it must be true... who are they to question "God"?
Marital Conversion
Submitted by heike6 on May 26, 2007 - 3:10pm.I think that the seriousness of religion is really proven by people who choose to convert to another religion that their spouse espouses. LOL, I'm such a funny pun-maker. Anyways, this proves that religion is not actually how these people see the world, but rather it is just another thing they use to describe themselves. You know when you have to fill out a form and it asks your race and religion. The first time I filled out a form like that, I put down protestant as my religion. Why would I do that? Because I was a little kid and I thought, as apparently many people still do, that it was just another attribute of my being.
