God is Love...say what?

So I just moved and thus had to leave the therapist I've been seeing for a year. I started seeing a new therapist last week and I thought she was awesome. Well, I had my second appointment with her today, and I still think she is awesome. But there is one thing that's not so awesome...

She was asking me more questions about my background (what is your relationship with your parents like? any trauma in your past? etc etc) and then she asks....well, it went like this:

Therapist: And what about your religious background?

Me: I don't really have one.

Therapist: What do you mean? That you never went to church or anything?

Fast: To Go Fast

I just watched the unedited version of the Nightline debate. I wanted to pull my hair out, as I always do when I see a debate with a theist, or myself try to debate with a theist. Why? Because they refuse to realize that you cannot prove the factuality of a book with that book itself. The bible is not proof of its reality, just as Harry Potter does not prove that Harry, Hermione, and Ron et al really exist. It's like when we were little and learning to define words. The first rule of thumb: you cannot use the word in the definition. To do so renders the definition worthless. If you didn't know the definition of the word "fast," and you looked it up and the definition read "to go fast," you'd have an utterly worthless definition on your hand and you'd have no idea what the word fast meant.

First (non-Livejournal) blog entry!

Hello to anyone who is reading this! I'm Nikki, a pretty much life-long atheist living down in sunny (and often irrational) Florida. A little about me: I'm 20, I have a BA (it's only three weeks old so it is still a big deal to me Smiling . I majored in English and Political Science and minored in African Studies. I'm currently taking a year off before I start my graduate work with the goal of getting a PhD in English. I want to be a novelist and English prof., but I am also passionate about several social issues. Namely, I work to dispell negative stereotypes of Africa and to promote eating disorder / poor body image awareness and recovery (I'm a recovering anorexic). On that note, I have a YouTube series about ED recovery under the username bordersofmylife.
