The Atheist Consumer
Ok I'm curious how the rest of the atheist's are on this topic... so I've got to ask.
Poseyland used their advertising board to say "Gods word define truth".
While I was on vacation in California friends took us to the In N Out burger place (which the burgers sucked like any other cheap burger joint) And they had bible versus on their water cups.
These are all places I will never purchase from or step foot into their building again.
So what do the rest of you guys do? Do you ignore the God slogan and buy what you want? Or do you find new alternate stores to shop at?

Christianity is so saturated around here that I usually ignore it. Most of the local businesses pay homage to christianity like displaying a jesus fish or something. I usually don't even notice it anymore.
"I am an atheist, thank God." -Oriana Fallaci
I've never noticed anything like that that I reacall, but if my cup had bible verses on it ,I'd sure never go there again.
Psalm 14:1 "the fool hath said in his heart there is a God"-From a 1763 misprinted edition of the bible
Argument from Sadism: Theist presents argument in a wall of text with no punctuation and wrong spelling. Atheist cannot read and is forced to concede.
They did it sneakily to, the verses were placed on the inner rim of the bottom ring of the cup. I was like no wonder the water tastes awful it's tainted!
I have this lady at work that makes cookies... *really super good cookies* My b/f and I joke that we shouldn't eat them because they are Christian cookies.
They were probably trying to turn it into wine.

There is a local car dealership here where the pitchman in the tv commercial says, "Where God, family and service come first".
I hate the arrogance of this bull crap. Why don't they put a sign in front of their dealership, "Non-Christians need not buy here".
Do they have the legal right to do such? Of course, and I also DON'T have to buy a car their either.

hamby started a thread a while back about purchasing at retailers that give profits to religious causes.
to answer the op though - i don't go back if it can be avoided. the only exception i'm currently making to this is target. however, when i shop there, i typically buy that week's loss leaders and leave so i could make the case that they aren't really making any money off me.

What Would Kharn Do?
Do you have the link to Hamby's thread? I'd love to read it. Especially if it lists places to avoid.
WHAT!? You don't like In n Out Burgers?! Your location must be broken! I've never met anyone out here that doesn't adore them.
Also, I think Starbucks had made a stink having a few atheist quotes on their cups at one point.
I'm not much of a fast food consumer. I really try to avoid any burger joints. I'd say I would of rather of ate a big mac from McDonalds then eat at the In N Out... and well I think McDonalds serves poison, I'd rather go hungry then eat at McDonalds again.
On that note.. I should stop in at Starbucks. Although I'm not much of a coffee drinker either.
I hate when stuff gets shoved in my throat under disguise, especially religion.
Can't stand Christian rock either.
I avoid chikfila, walmart for these reasons.
I received a postcard/coupon in the mail the other day advertising a plumber. Looked okay at first then I noticed the 'fish' on the lower right corner and on the lower left corner this message:
Proverbs 22:29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
I called them and asked them if they do plumbing for non-christians. They responded 'of course ma'am'.... I told them they wouldn't be getting any business from this one.

Nice!
I'm not familiar with chikfila, but I have been boycotting walmart for the past 3 years. I didn't know they were affiliated with religious stuff though. My reasons for boycotting was because they were encouraging employees to be on welfare and other stuff.
That other thread would be this one here. Ohh, like the new link option, actualy opens in a window large enough that I can see all the options rather than guessing them too! Uhh, where was I? Ohh, shiny thing!
The biggest issue I have with avoiding stores is more the clarity of what places support. It's hard to get this kind of information. Target is another one I didn't know had christian ties, I shop there all the time 'cause I don't want clothes with huge logo's (they should pay me to advertise for them, I shouldn't be paying them) which is all a lot of places sell, or they charge $150 for something I can get for $30 from target (quality wise). I just don't see the point. K-Mart & Big-W are crap as far as quality goes, nowhere else that I know of is good quality without the 200% label markup and huge free advertising.
Organised religion is the ultimate form of blasphemy.

They might being trying to make the water at the in and out burger holy. As for the christian car dealership, do they also have a sign "Seat belts not included, jesus inluded" ? I also avoid chikfila on the grounds that they are a christian company. I also avoid dominos. Pappa Johns anyone?
I really do my best to avoid Christian companies that make it blatant that they are Christian based companies. I'm sure around here, claiming that might draw in a few extra customers...might give them an ever-so-slight edge on the competition. But sometimes if the company offers something that is unique and/or highly desirable (damn Chik-fil-a for having such tasty offerings), I will cave sometimes and go give them my business.
But it's infrequent that I do so. But if there is a company that offers the same or similar offerings that a company who doesn't purport itself to be Christian-based, I will definitely avoid the X-ian company like the plague and go visit the non-faith blasting competitor.
"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."

I try and avoid them, esp if they push their religion down my neck. However, since I live in canada, there is a lot less of it going around up here.
Morte alla tyrannus et dei
i should clarify what i was saying earlier...
i don't hunt and peck through the annual reports of every company i want to buy something from to see where they make their charitable contributions. if i did, i would probably end up making my own clothes and living off veggies i grew out back as there's probably something i would disagree with 90% of the time or more...
however, if a retailer/restaurant/etc. is contributing to religious causes enough that i hear about it - either through the side of their bags (chic-fil-a) or some sort of indirect advertising then, yes, i will stop shopping there if an alternative exists.
