Put their money where their mouth is

I think a great way for the RRS to make money is to host a gambling site that lets xians bet on when they think the rapture will happen.  Give them great odds like 1,000,000:1 in the next year 500,000:1 in the next 5 years, and 100,000:1 in the next 10 years.  They won't be able to resist!

I doubt it would be

I doubt it would be succesful - if it doesn't happen they lose, and if it does they probably assume they'll be raptured and not here to collect.

I suppose we should start

I suppose we should start selling p3n1s enl@rgmNt p11ls and \/i@ggra after that takes off? Heh, j/k

Your idea might actually work. If you take into consideration the mental caliber of the kind of people that believe the rapture is coming soon, and pose as a fundy site (purely in the satirical sense like landover baptist) you might actually get some donations. I don't know how that would pan out with a non-profit organization, but seeing that the RRS isn't one, perhaps we should consider it. Just a thought

I'd like to have a gambling

I'd like to have a gambling site where Christians try to pass a lie detector test to see if they really believe what they claim.

Why not advertise on Christian web sites faith verification services? Electroshock therapy if you demonstrate any signs of doubt about your faith.

Taxation is the price we pay for failing to build a civilized society. The higher the tax level, the greater the failure. A centrally planned totalitarian state represents a complete defeat for the civilized world, while a totally voluntary society represents its ultimate success. --Mark Skousen

Problem:  If someone wins

Problem:  If someone wins their bet, who will be left to pay them their money?

Seriously, I think that's a pretty funny idea.  I also think the lie detector test is an awesome idea.  Actually, EXC, here's what I think is an even better idea for the lie detector.  You know that new show where they strap people to lie detectors and ask them difficult questions?  We need a couples lie detector show.  Strap the husband and wife (both theists) to lie detectors, and then after asking the woman a few questions about her faith (she really does believe), ask the husband if he's pretending to be a Christian because he doesn't want to sleep on the couch.

That show leaves me

That show leaves me scratching my head.

Polygraph examinations, as I understand it, do not provide accurate 'on the spot' results, and give false positives / negatives sufficiently enough that they are discredited as being admissable as evidence in mainstream fields of research (not to mention courts of law).

I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full."

..... pump them up with phenobarbital  first, then administer the polygraph.

It's not a sure thing but it could still serve a diagnostic purpose, eh ?

Yeah then we could see who the real wackos are...

There are several obvious

There are several obvious problems with the rapture betting like that they wouldn't be here to collect and we wouldn't be around to pay.  Of course the people who beleive that the rapture is around the corner have such poor critical thinking skills that they probably wouldn't even notice these flaws.

Why wouldn't we be around to pay?  When the rapture happens only the saved christians disappear.  We'll still be here.  Tell them that we will donate their winnings to organizations to save more people before the end of the tribulations is over, thereby saving their souls.

But the Christians that are saved won't be seeing any of that money, sure they probably won't mind but as long as they're still here they probably do.

Also I'm not so sure as for what organizations that can save people will still be around, I mean all saved christians are gone, do you really need unsaved people to tell you how to get saved?

Most christians think that they will be able to see what is going on here on Earth when they go to heaven.

And as for who will be doing the saving...  *ahem*  I've been "saved" and grew up in church.  A lot of us have.  I'm sure a number of us would reconvert into Christianity if the rapture ever really happened.

But isn't that kind of the point?  If they're right about the whole rapture thing, then what do they have to use?  They won't need the money in heaven.  If they're right, whether we pay up or not we've ultimately lost whether we get money or not.

Organised religion is the ultimate form of blasphemy.
