Man kills 2 girls during pagan ritual

This theme -- parents harming/killing their children and then claiming their religion had something to do with it -- is becoming far too common lately ( or maybe I have just become more aware of the issue)

A man is accused of strangling and stabbing his 2 step-daughters ages 8 and 10 and then setting the house on fire to cover it up. He tells authorities he: "had been casting a spell that had gone bad, and that the spell could have had severe consequences" he claims to have blacked-out during the ritual and when he woke he doesn't remember what happened.

Here is one of many updates on this story that made headlines January 8th, 2008.

What a fucking thing to

What a fucking thing to happen on my 34th birthday. Another example that the Christards aren't the only irrational ones.

We all know what's going to

We all know what's going to happen.

Christards, in their complete idiocy, will say this was the work of satan simply because the word "pagan" was attached to it. They will shut their eyes to this exact same bullshit administered by the hands of those they call their "brothers/sisters in christ".

Let us see how this unfolds...

There are times when I literally become overwhelmed by the irrationality.  Intellectually, I know that this is what makes theism so successful.  It has no critical mirror.  It can only see faults in others, not itself.

And when someone forces them to examine themselves, they simply slide past the burden by asserting that anyone who does such a thing is not part of their "One True Religion."

We don't have to worry about the justice system.  Since he isn't a Christian, there's no chance of him getting off.

   Christianity uses evil

Christianity uses evil like Atheism uses theism. Evil and theism are the fuel for the unity of the groups' identity.

I'm curious as to how this

I'm curious as to how this is morally any different from the Christian parents who watched their child die of a form of diabetes. They believed they were "doing the right thing" by praying. This man believed he was "doing the right thing" because he had been casting a spell "which might have had severe consequences". Now tell me how these are ethically different. If not, it logically follows the same punishment ought be administered. But we already know what is going to happen, don't we?

"Physical reality” isn’t some arbitrary demarcation. It is defined in terms of what we can systematically investigate, directly or not, by means of our senses. It is preposterous to assert that the process of systematic scientific reasoning arbitrarily excludes “non-physical explanations” because the very notion of “non-physical explanation” is contradictory.

I kind of feel sorry for

I kind of feel sorry for him, to be honest.  He probably saw them reaching for a cup and lost it.  I mean, after I first saw that video on the internet roughly around January I was a little jumpy every time I saw two females in the vicinity of a drink container too.

Organised religion is the ultimate form of blasphemy.

The parents of the diabetic girl prayed to god for her health, this guy performed a ritual to ask for help from(insert pagan ritual diety/god/goddess)  ...I don't see much difference. There was a mother here in Illinois recently that killed her daughter by stabbing her and slashing her throat because she was "possessed"...I wonder if she prayed and got the answer she was looking for?

In all fairness, I do. Yes, both acts are despicable. But it takes a whole different kind of source of ambition and disregard for a person to actively chop-up another human being (a family member particularly) vs simply doing nothing and watching them die.

Sometimes, I just feel like giving somebody a flying elbow drop. This would be one of those times.

"Natasha has just come up to the window from the courtyard and opened it wider so that the air may enter more freely into my room. I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full."

Christianity: A disgusting middle eastern blood cult, based in human sacrifice, with sacraments of cannibalism and vampirism, whose highest icon is of a near naked man hanging in torment from a device of torture.

Not actually a new term -

Not actually a new term - I've heard "Christard" for years now - it's even on urbandictionary.com (I've contributed 4 definitions there by the way - Pimp day, pimp ring, cuntgristle, and b-natch.)

My first experience of that

My first experience of that word was from Shalini's rather abundant use of it, I loved it and have adopted it in to my regular vocabulary.

What ever happened to Shalini anyway?

As far as I am concerned the man who claims to have "blacked-out" and awoken to the horrific scene is no different then the parents who have "blacked out" for years believing that praying will help them.

I see  your point that yes, it would take a completely different mind set to chop someone up but it all comes back to the motivation of believing in a deity.

It's like the guy who killed

It's like the guy who killed his flatmate for being an atheist (and thus possessed by the devil right?). It was posted on here a few months ago. I think we need a cure for these mind-viruses and quickly. We might just have an epidemic on our hands.
