China

According to National Geographic;  May 2008;         31 %  of Chinese  age 16 and older say they are religious,  four times higher then official estimates ten years ago.         That's roughly  360,000,000 religios,  with 40,000,000 Christians.

Any thoughts on this fellow non-believers?

YICKS ! One the other hand

YICKS !  One the other hand ...Is Buddhism a religion ? What does "religious" mean to the Chinese?  One in five earthling live in china ..... RRS DG biologist poster does.

Much to slow to my liking, but Religious non sense is on it's way out, I think ....         I must now pray, "Dear reason for this, please help me" ....

I AM a deeply religious Atheist , I AM GOD as you ..... well I hope you are too .... Language is very tricky !

As Richard Feynman said, "... you must not fool yourself—and you are the easiest person to fool."

This reminded me that I didnt read my issue.

Shhhhhhhhhhh...

Listen...

Do you hear that?

That sucking sound.

Its China sucking oil out of the ground.

They've increased their consumption of oil from 166 million barrels per year in 1996 to 1.064 billions barrels in 2006. Thats 6.5 times increase in 10 years and most Chinese dont own vehicle yet.

The price of gas will never go down. It will only increase.

EDIT - unless the communist government tells them to get back on their bicycles

People who think there is something they refer to as god don't ask enough questions.

You do know China has

You do know China has nuclear weapons too and a huge army? We could I'm sure wipe them out, but lose maybe the 25 largest cities in the US, multiple bases in Europe and Asia - they could probably knock out most of our satellites and wipe out Taiwan and our military in S Korea and Japan - giving N Korea an easy way to expand. They probably could even cause an EMP high above the US - knocking out most power and electronics in the entire country. This would result in tens of millions of American deaths. Even if we somehow stopped them from hitting back, the economic damage from destroying such an important trading partner - not to mention the rest of the worlds opinion would go down in a way that would make GWB look like Nelson Mandella and this is a terrible idea. I am sure hoping it was a joke.

I'm not worried about their

I'm not worried about their coal plants - other than it's effect on global warming. Their oil consumption scars me, but the US has enough coal for its own supply for centuries. Also, nuclear power is really the best for power plants, but the irrational fear prevented any from being built since the 70s. Modern western ones are as safe as they get and put out much less waste than older ones.

a great deal of europe, including slovakia, is on nuclear power and it's the way to go until a really usable, efficient bio alternative is developed.  they're actually going to reconstruct a plant here because they've shut down one of the major old ones.  the only problem is, in the intervening years it takes to finish it, we're dependent on russian gas.

nuclear power is pretty safe in my opinion.  chernobyl happened because the soviets were major fucktards at safety and maintenance of pretty much anything.

i'm all about funding a major revolution there (or anywhere else)!  airlift me into that motherfucker!  give me six months in the mountains, i'll come out with a peasant army so vicious, it'll make confucius jump out of his goddamn tomb and run for the hills.  but we'll be waiting there for him...  fuck the consequences!  consequences don't mean shit for a revolutionary!

couldn't have come at a more opportune time either, since i have mao's "on guerilla warfare" coming in the mail from amazon.

i'm afraid the regime i would set up wouldn't be too US-friendly though, so the CIA would constantly be on my ass, funding counter-revolutionaries and shit.  no matter.  they've had 50 years to off fidel on a small island and fucked that up big time, so good luck getting at me in one of the largest countries on earth.

seriously though, starting an internal rebellion would be the only way you could pull it off.  you'd never be able to invade china.  even the mongols and the manchus never subdued the entire country.  as for nukes, that wouldn't take care of the leadership.  ol' chairman mao built such a huge network of bomb shelters, bunkers, and underground tunnels, the marines and special forces would be spelunking for the rest of their natural lives to find anyone of importance.

May 2008 you say. Have a fallen through I loophole in space and time where May 2008 hasn't actually happend yet?

31% is still much lower than most other countries. I don't think that China's mainstream atheism is anything for us to be proud of though.

Most magazine issues come out at least a month before the date on the cover (other than weekly ones)
