Polygamist fashion....runway bound?

Who hasn't seen the "little house on the prairie" styled dresses and hair being modeled by the women of the Texas Polygamist compound?

art.polyfashion.ap.jpg

At first glance the thought of covered wagons and milking the cows comes to mind (I've milked a cow...doing so in a dress would have been less constraining) As second glance one has to stop and think wait, no Brittany bellies or tight fitting tee shirts with bosom hanging out? What is wrong with these women!!??

Well to these ladies, apparently nothing is wrong. The dresses these women wear are meant to show modesty and conformity, a very important aspect of their lives with one man to give the loving to. Could you imagine the cat fight if modest Mary shows up to dinner with her hair down! SHIT....Jedediah would for SURE pick that saucy little vixen over the others for a nights stay!

Apparently we can see some impact on this years fashion (according the author of the article HERE)

"You can already find blouses with high necks and ruffles in stores, and puffed shoulders on short and long-sleeved shirts."

I have to argue with the reporter as I know for a fact fashions and styles are chosen at least 18 months in advance so he/she is fallaciously drawing a parallel that isn't there(I am sure there is a fancy name for that but I don't know it)

SO long story short : Ladies don't worry! We won't be seeing these garments on the racks at Nordstrom's or Macy's until it becomes fashionable to be part of a polygamist lifestyle (NOT to be confused with polyamory!)

Fuck that, thats goofy -

Fuck that, thats goofy - they all look fugly too. I'd rather have one decent woman that dresses like a normal person than 6 or 8 of those skankos.

My grandmother that just passed away last year came to Texas in a covered wagon.

I feel bad that she has

I feel bad that she has died, it would be cool to find out what that was like. How old was she, 120-130?

I'm going to completely

I'm going to completely derail this thread.  Sorry.

[rant ON]

I am so fucking tired of watching this shit on the news.  It's not about polygamy.  It's about child abuse.  There have been hundreds, maybe thousands of polygamous cultures in the world.  Polygamy does not cause child abuse.  They are completely and utterly separate issues.  Yet, every time I turn on the TV, it's "NEWS FLASH --- MORE ON THE POLYGAMY SCANDAL!!!"

It's not about the fucking polygamy!!

[/rant OFF]

That is all.

Ok, this is gonna sound goofy.

The thing I hate MOST about the whole mess it that it has forced me to DEFEND this bunch. Why, you might ask?

I've said from the beginning it all sounds like a set-up.

It was.

A psycho in Arizona made the calls that the cops used as an excuse to storm the compound. A lot like Bush using 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq.

I'm against anyone forcing young girls into sexual relationships that they are simply not mentally or emotionally ready to handle, but, even with the damn near hysterical media hype and microscopic scrutiny, only a very few cases of child sexual abuse seems to be in evidence.

However what adults decide to do amongst themselves is NOT the buisness of the state. Polygamy works for some people.

Polyamory is a lot more common (been there, done that, and when it's good it's VERY good

I don't like hypocracy.

Don't like the fashion? Let's not mention the Amish, the Menonites, the Hassidic Jews, the Hutterites, or the Pentecostals. Child marriage? the aforementioned groups have done their share...

Let's compare any other groups of 400 or so kids and adolescents, say from a nice protestant gated community... Who do you think has the most drug/alcohal abuse? Who do you think would score higher in crime rates? Care to hazard a guess on promiscuity or risky sexual behaviour? Are you going to tell me that ONLY in Mormon communities will you find knocked up 13 year olds?

Their religion is no less loopy than any other, and certainly no more. I still say the state makes a LOUSY parent.

Rant Over....

Time Warp

When I saw those women on Larry King it was like I stepped into a time warp. The hair, the dresses, the submissiveness all made me think of this nostalgic view those of my generation have of the stereotypical fifties family. These women seemed to be mental and emotional midgets due to their upbringing. Their self esteem and self worth outside their family and their role as a wife and mother seemed to be almost nothing.

I would have to agree with what Bill Maher said last week:"New Rule: Whenever you combine a secretive compound, religion and weirdos in pioneer outfits, there's going to be some child-fucking going on. In fact, whenever a cult leader sets himself up as "God's infallible wing man" here on earth, lock away the kids."

Did anyone else notice they

Did anyone else notice they sounded like robots? ie The monotone voice, the refusal to answer questions they didn't rehearse and them all answering the questions the same way?

That's what scared me most. Well, second most. Unibrow was terrifying. But they spoke so slowly, always waited their turn to speak, and had no emotion except for sad. You're Americans, dammit! Be rude! Demand things! Shout! The government took your kids away! RAISE YOUR VOICE! Sad
