Praise Xenu!

A meandering thought occured in my head today...

Did any one catch a recent "Colbert Report" where Steven praised Xenu (mockingly...)

How long do you think it will take before the Scientologist take action?

You know, lawsuits, blackmail conversions, death threats, etc etc.

It's possible that they're

It's possible that they're smart enough not to go after Steven Colbert.  Out of everybody they could go after, he would be the worst choice.  Talk about humiliations galore.  You think scientology could survive the Colbert Nation's ridicule?

I don't.

Ohh, that delicious thought had never occurred to me.  I would absolutely love to see what would be cooked up about Scientology by the man who tore a strip off a sitting president while the man was in the room with him.  The absolute best thing that could possibly happen is some ham-handed lawyer sending him a C&D.

I've been fantasizing about it since I wrote that.  I think someone should figure out a way to talk them into it.

Oh man. How awesome would that be? I'll answer my own question: The Awesomest.

From what I understand (not having a television) Tom Cruise is doing a PR backpedal on the Oprah show, and Scientology is beating a hasty retreat. The last nail in the coffin would be outright scathing ridicule, and those guys do it so well. Oh man. Maybe someone should send them a Guy Fawkes mask.

Yeah, but there's not CHALLENGE to it.  It's one thing to ridicule someone that's sitting in front of you, or someone in power who did something stupid.  But pointing out the vagaries of a set of beliefs like Scientology?  I think that's set as a reference in the Dictionary of Similies under "barrel, shooting fish in a".

COlbert is the shit! I saw

COlbert is the shit! I saw that show and I laughed my ass off when he said that. As for Scientology Core Members, they might be stupid, but I really wonder if the situation is more like the mockery of Scientology on south park? I mean on that, all the top people knew it was bullshit, but it is a huge moneymaker and a poweful organization to boot. Going up against a hugely influential satirist like Colbert would have to be the absolute worst thing a fairly new religion could do for itself, and I think they wouldn't challenge him...but oh what hilarity would ensue.

On a related note, did anyone see his Bill Oreilly parody last night, where he showed the clip of Oreilly freaking out over a script on A current Affair. I mean Olbermann showed it and labeled him Worst Person for the billionth day, but Colbert's "old footage" of him as an entertainment reporter for some local station was spot on, and he is rapidly becoming a lot more funny than Jon Sterwart. I watch them both, but Stewart's seriousness of the last few years has increased and the tone of the show went from political satire, to a fairly serious news show with satire included...in my opinion.

There was a small

There was a small anti-scientology protest in Perth (my city) last saturday. Nearly as many police as protesters, which was quite funny.

Aparently scientology is full of shit and bad for you. Who would have thought? (ok they did word it more eloquently than that)

Most of them had Guy Fawkes masks out of V for Vendetta and/or nazi style military uniforms. They looked pretty cool.

Once (before I really new anything about them) I naively filled out a questionaire for them (always happy to give people my opinion ), it took me years to get them to stop mailing me stuff. The creepy thing is that I moved house without telling them, but they still found me and mailed to my new address! I ended up writing a letter of compaint to an american office, which finally did stop them.

I think this is intentional on his part, for better or worse.  I saw an interview with him years ago, and he said that he despairs that the only way to report accurately anymore is to pretend that it's comedy.  Maybe he thinks things are bad enough that he's trying to use his popularity to "fix" the media a little bit...

I dunno.  But, I do agree that Colbert is much funnier than Stewart now.  The problem I have is that most of what's on the news makes me so mad I don't want to laugh at it.
