Hello and what I know (or not)
Hi there. I just want to share a little bit about how I became an atheist. First, I got an education. Now I understand why radio talkshow hosts call college professors "elitist."
Or maybe it was my prayers not getting answered, or that church was a pageant. After all, you must wear your best before God, even though he kicked Adam and Eve out of the garden because they started covering themselves.
You've heard it a million times. Now I want to share with you some resources that might shine a light on the subject of your whole culture and how much of it is influenced by the old dogma.
I'm reading a book by William Graebner called "The Engineering of Consent: Democracy and Authority in Twentieth-Century America" and Noam Chomsky's "Manufacturing Consent: The political economy of the Mass Media."
The two books go hand in hand to describe how religion has been attempting to usurp the democratic process using a method called "Democratic Social Engineering," Manipulating your perception of the choices you have.
Most people in America believe that Democracy is a two-party system. We were taught exactly that in elementary school. Ignoring and vilifying the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, or every other party that makes an effort toward political process today.
So, letting go of religion is putting your whole perception of authority on a shaky footing. Atheism is an afront to all authority. Anyone who claims "power invested in me by God and the state of yada yada..."
So, we need a Socratic revolt. Those of us with critical thinking skills can no longer afford to support those who don't. We can't keep the status quo anymore. We must select a nice country like New Zealand or some place that appreciates science over sports and other forms of immediate gratification, and move there, leaving the fools to fend for themselves.
Remember:
Meaning is in people, not things.
Belief is a delusion.

LOL, you probably won't find too many people that place science over sports in NZ, but, take heart, NZ has way better sports.
