WTF? whats next, blinking porno pop-ups and flashing "you won-click here to claim your prize" garbage? maybe no one cares, but if I keep seeing stuff like this here on RRS, I am going elsewhere.

Personally, I don't give a shit what led to this last post, and I'm not going to read through the whole thread to find out. Here's the bottom line on the ads. Google allows a maximum of 200 blocks. That's all. That means that out of the thousands of offensive ads possible through google, we can only block them from 200 sites. Trust me. Our 200 blocked sites are much worse than most of the sites that do sneak through, like Christian dating.

The fact of the matter is, there's hardly any atheist advertising out there. Because our topics cover theism, we're going to get lots of theist ads from google. Sex is a frequent topic, too, so there you go. The alternative is not to do any google ads, and we do make money from it, so that's not really an option. It's all we can do to keep the site up from month to month on donations, considering that such a small percentage of our members actually donate.

I hope you don't decide to leave over a google ad, but the fact is, there's nothing we can do to change google's policy. Help us get another million or two members, and maybe we'll have the clout to bargain with them, but at our size, forget it.

By the way, if we were to get a couple hundred more gold members, we probably wouldn't have to do google ads. In case anyone wants to help.

Guaranteed that unless you are on a commercial line (T1 or greater) my connection is in fact not slow and is not by comparison to yours. That would not affect pop ups. Everyone, this is incredibly ridiculous. We have very little control over what is thrown our way by google ads, much the same way that you have no control over what ads are shown during TV commercial breaks. We have done our best to get the crap ads off the site, but we are unable to do much more. We have to help pay the bills, there is no way around this. We have to accept the good with the bad, and ignore the things we don't like, much like TV commercials. This has been discussed before, as has been posted earlier in the thread. We hate to lose a member over something as trivial as this, but if you must go, kaab, then we won't stop you.
