A woman near Toronto has an Autistic daughter in a public school.
She drops the child off for the day, and no sooner leaves than she gets a frantic call to come back to the school...
She is met by the school administration, who inform her that there are allegations of sexual abuse, and the 'Children's Aid Society" has been called in...
It seems, the teaching assistant in the child's class, had been told by a Psychic, that one of her children had been being abused...
The School board bought it.
After investigation, NO evidence of abuse was found....

I think you need probable cause to open an investigation, and psychics don't count.

There are always kooks like this, and this is vague at best, the school board should be sued for this, the teacher dismissed, and well she really should be compensated for this, I wouldn't send my child to that school again either, and being autistic and all, I would assume it isn't just any school that takes autistic children as students.

But you know what's worse? The person who called the cops was a TA. Let that sink in for a second.

You'd think the cops getting a call that was "A psychic told me one of the kids here is being abused" that they would just hang up.

I thought it would have been more likely that they'd have to respond to every allegation within their ability to do so and do investigations, but only press charges if there was probable cause. Sounds to me like this is all they did. The staff member who listened to the psychic is the idiot here, the rest (school administration, child protection people etc) were just following procedure to cover their arse from litigation in case this psychic lucked out.
When the cops were called it was probably more along the lines of "I work for X school, there have just been allegations of possible abuse", leaving off the bit about the psychic until the cops were there so they could demonstrate that they did actually do everything they could in the situation.
Organised religion is the ultimate form of blasphemy.
