I've been to some other atheist forums

And the debating skills there aren't nearly as strong as some of the members here. I've seen some amazing rebuttles and incredibly strong arguments made here, and I think it's made me expect the same level of expertise at other forums. I would take part in the arguments but I run the risk of getting too upset and resorting to ad hominems(sp?), so I just lurk. But I do wish there were more Deluded God's and the like out there, because it's frustrating reading pages and pages of debating between one theist and a bunch of atheists, and seeing the atheists constantly missing points and making weak arguments when it should be eeeeasy to squash the theists arguments!!

Anyway, just wanted to say, big ups to the folk here. Not just the dude/dude-ette that I mentioned but others who kick ass as well.

Wish in one hand, shit in the other, see which one fills up first.

Well, I hope I'm included in the group you mentioned. I try my best.

Thanks from all of us. It's good to hear. I barely have time for the RRS, so I haven't checked out other forums, but I have been curious.

Thanks for the props!What

Thanks for the props!

What you're talking about is exactly why I'm here and not somewhere else.  I don't do flame wars or ad hominem arguments.  I've got better things to do than waste my time with people who aren't interested in real debate -- or capable of real debate.  We catch a lot of shit from a lot of corners, but I think the proof is in the pudding.  I don't know of any other atheist website that has the caliber of contributors that we do.  There's a LOT of great stuff in our authors section, and almost all of our regular members can whip the socks off of a theist in a real debate.

I generally find other

I generally find other atheist boards to be too large for effective debate. I think it's pretty good here-we're large enough to have a good site, but small enough to know most regulars on at least a somewhat personal level. I think that's as important as being a good debater, since if we were all strangers and didn't know each other well I'm sure it would affect our effectivness as whole.

personally, I think my debating skills have gone from nothing to pretty good since I've been here. I'm confident enough now to go take the fight to other forums.

I've done that, but I keep having to come onto this board to ask people how I can squash someone's argument, because my personal knowledge reservoir is tiny. Even after all the reading I've done. I've got the memory of a goldfish. So I'm worried I'll get on people's nerves. "Go read a book and come up with your own arguments, damn you, bastard!!!" "It's that Jello fella again!! Damn him to hell!"

Clearly, you haven't seen the Mythbusters episode where they tested goldfish memory.

No, but I did see the QI episode where that myth was exposed... I think it was there.. either way I'm aware that it's a myth. So there. Nyaaah

It's true - we're awesome. Well ... I know I'm awesome.

The christian forums are worse. They don't even know their apologetics, which they should at least be provided in pamphlet form in case they find themselves in the unfortunate position of trying to convert me.

I very occasional post on a

I very occasional post on a forum that has nothing to do with religion. I'm currently involved in a thread about afterlives. After being around here, I'm amazed by,

A) How many crazy ideas these people believe. I thought most people there weren't theists or religious, but there's some mad beliefs there.Alot believe reincarnation, and even more just follow mixed up faiths taken from different religions. Don't they know anything about religion?

B) How many have no idea of the definitions of atheism and agnosticism, which I'm trying to show isn't a stand alone label, and isn't 'safer' than being atheist.

It's pretty shocking stuff.

A lot of us are veterans

A lot of us are veterans from the Infidel Guy's site. If you are looking for more atheists with good arguments, you might want to check out his websites. I know there's atheistforums.com, as well as his main site infidelguy.com. To be honest, I've 'switched' to RRS fulltime, but I still greatly respect Reggie, the Infidel Guy. He has a very solid way of approaching theists. I learned quite a few techniques while participating on his website a few years ago. Not sure how his forums are doing these days. RRS is closer philosophically to what I'm looking for, more activism, more in-your-face. So that's why I prefer it.

Wonderist on Facebook — Support the idea of wonderism by 'liking' the Wonderism page — or join the open Wonderism group to take part in the discussion!

No kidding. Plus, here you're guaranteed a decent tag-team-of-death. It's not just one person saying the kalam cosmological argument is ridiculous, it's five or six in rapid succession, then Matt puts up the cat picture, Prozac tells them what kind of stupid they are, Hamby tells them why they're stupid, deludedgod gives them an eight paragraph tome on the nature of their misunderstanding, and a certain cartoon warlock tells us he'd rather be setting fire to chipmunks.

You can't buy that kind of entertainment!

I never want to leave this magcal place.

I have noticed that every other forum that I have seen atheists at, they've always seemed like a bunch of amatuers, missing points, making weak arguments and holding steadast to the zeigeist movie, claiming something along he lines of 'this will get all those theists to shutup and end stupid theist crap for evaaaarrr!!11oneeleventy'. shit, I used to be one of those assholes before coming to the RRS. I believed in ghosts, psychics, cnspiracies and all manner of paranormal bullshit, but droped it all around a couple of months after signing up here. I also couldn't argue my way out of a paper bag for the most part but again, this forum has made me improve immensely on that part as well and I have an improved bullshit radar now aswell.
