Stray Kittens

I was talking to Shelley about this last night and she suggested I post it here with pictures. We feed stray cats - a black and white female has been coming for months. Friday morning she brought her kittens - 4 black, one black and white. One of the black ones was adopted by someone my mom works with. They are about 4 - 5 weeks old. We brought them in so they don't get hit by a car or eaten by hawks. Tried to get the mother in, but couldn't (in fact she bit me badly on the thumb.) We take them out to nurse every few hours. So here are the kittens (bad picture because they kept trying to come to me while I took it - they are very friendly.)

We've had a few of cats and

We've had a few of cats and dogs here over the years, but after the several years of pet-less period a cat came to us from a neighbour (drunkard, he probably didn't feed her) and then gave birth to another cat, (thanks God just one) which we had to tame, eventually. Since then, they both live here. The younger cat grew really big, loud, annoying, and mostly lazy to catch mice. The older cat (they're nameless) is, on the other side, very well behaved, silent, cuter, and hunts mice or voles like crazy, the record is 5 per day, if I remember. Whenever she catches something, she brings it to us (sometimes on carpet if we don't convince her to drop it outside) and demands a reward, which is usually stroking on fur, scrathing, and some milk. I know, milk is a poison, but cats wants it, and I don't like them enough to protect them from the danger of drinking the milk, for a price of having them meowing under my window all the night.

I think that it is OK to take care of animals around, but not send money to charitative organizations for a help to starving hundreds of millions of people. This problem must be solved GLOBALLY, with a cooperation of nations and whole industries. What compassionate people scratches from the bottom of their purses, is not enough at all, the only who can pay it, are the really rich, and the nations as such. It's good if the people will stay compassionate, through helping the animals for example, so they will be also more tolerant toward a political and economical changes, which will help other nations. Don't be sorry that you help only animals and not starving people, just be prepared to support the greater actions, which will make a multiple governments take care of it, and make others join.

I personally like plants more than animals. Plants are silent, undemanding, doesn't get intestinal parasites, looks nicely, smells well, and can provide a psychoactive substances. What kind of a pet can do that?

After 30 odd posts within this thread, I was beginning to worry that no one would step up and speak for the entire human race.

hehehe

Rook and I tended to some

Rook and I tended to some strays for a few days while they hung out in our shed last year.  We filmed it but didn't think it would be much more than a little home video.  So here it is, I didn't listen to it, just made some quick edits for length.

Also, I was thinking about ordering personalized license plates for my ride but does anyone know how to reduce death machine to fit into the 6 character limits of a license plate ?

6? on custom plates? where the hell do you live? People around here have 8-->9

I cant think of a decent way to downsize death machine, but your alternative would be to find the name of something that is a known death machine, and use that.

On the subject of cats and

On the subject of cats and milk. For all you who would like to give your cats milk. I've heard from a reliable source (my brother who is an all-round knowledge sponge, and who takes a particular interest in biology and health of both animals and humans, (his wife is a doctor, and he sometimes seem to know more about how the body works than she does) ), that the thing their metabolism gets screwed by is regular milk, not all dairy. It has something to do with the acidic proparties of milk...

Damn... I've hit a language barrier here... I study English at university level, but chemistry and food is where my vocabolary is the least fleshed out...

The opposite of acidic. A high PH level rather than low. That is what regular milk is. Yogurt however, and the stuff that we in Danish call "kærnemælk" (that's "churned milk", directly translated) is acidic, and cats should have no problem eating this at all. So just feed your cats dairy products that taste sour, and they should be good. My brother would always let his cat lick the bowl after he had finished his cereal (he ate his cereal with "ymer" which is Danish for a sorta yogurt type thing. A sugarfree ,flavorfree, sourtasting thick consistancy milk-product, don't know if you have it in America, or what you call it if you do).

Anyway, the cat had that little bit every morning his whole life, and lived a long healthy life (he eventually died in battle with a dog. He was a true warrior that cat).

Well I was born an original sinner
I was spawned from original sin
And if I had a dollar bill for all the things I've done
There'd be a mountain of money piled up to my chin

Cows milk will give most

Cows milk will give most cats diarrhea. They do sell that cat milk in pet stores - meant for kittens who are too young for food but can't nurse (mother cat abondoned them or died.)

She's kind of hiding but now

She's kind of hiding but now they can nurse whenever they want. She did sort of come out last time I went in - they were under the bookshelf with her and came to me when I came in.

Guess you can't take one home with you Saturday seeing you're going on a huge road trip!

Sorry, but I couldn't

Sorry, but I couldn't anyway.  My current cat is a Bengal and she was evicted from her initial home for trying to kill a kitten.

Damn. Need to find someone.

Damn. Need to find someone. Won't do to have 10 cats. The mother might go out once she's done nursing them and we get her fixed and her ear notched. She doesn't seem comfortable in the house.

Wow. Another cat - a Calico

Wow. Another cat - a Calico ( Shelley saw her when she was here) brought her 2 kittens. ON black and white one red tabby. Difference is these 2 are terrified and run away. There is a cat we call "the big dirty cat" - a male black and white who has been really friendly to me lately - the black and white kitten looks jsut like him -- the red tabby looks just like the last one we brought in as a pet.

Cat's are sooo F---ing cool

Wow !   I had  3 cat's and many, many dog's. My last cat was born in the house in Philly, but her mother came from up state New York ,where my sister lives,on the Finger Lakes. That was MAX a female barn yard cat ,who gave us two litters, and I kept  one of the kittens, named her-BABY. Once while reading Alan Watts a Buddhist philosopher, wrote "If you want to know what ZEN is study your cat ,they're always in a state of ZEN. PS- keep up the great work MATT,and I hope that you find a home for them soon.

try putting an ad on

try putting an ad on Petfinder.  it's easier to find a home for them when they are young and cute... besides, you might end up meeting a woman with a car this way.

Well, apparently they are

Well, apparently they are atheist kittens. My mom had in the room palm fronds made into a cross (a priest brought them to the hospital she works at palm sunday.) The kittens shredded it!
