greetings from southwest Florida

Hello fellow non-believers, and greetings from Lee County, Florida. Just a quick message to say hello and to let everyone know there is one more of us (me!) amongst this mostly non-rational world we live in. I just found this site and will be spending some time looking through here - this place is chock-full of all sorts of good stuff.

I work in the construction industry; we build new commercial buildings, which happen to include the occasional new church here and there. (There seems to be an over-abundance of them here in Lee County, or maybe it's just my biased that notices them on nearly every city block.) Oddly enough, the churches we build are usually poorly managed projects and have a tendency to be very low profit margins. As my boss is so fond of saying, "God doesn't want us to make money on these." *laugh* But He sure likes to keep plenty for Himself, as we are usually required to purchase the materials for these jobs with Direct Material Purchases, i.e. they use their tax-exempt status (BS) to avoid sales tax. I balk at these Direct Purchases every time we have to do this, but unfortunately it's one of their silly games we have to play in order to get the contracts.

And a quick thanks to my loving parents (both of whom were raised in Catholic families) for letting myself and my siblings think for ourselves, and for not bringing us up in an oppressive superstitious household, like so many of my childhood friends were.

Take care everyone, and thank you very much for having this terrific website here!

Welcome

This is the hurricane season, right?  That alone should keep you busy.  My # 2 daughter is vacationing in Daytona Beach right now and boy do I wish I were there.

Yup, hurricane season and

Yup, hurricane season and rain season. I haven't seen much of the sun lately, as we have been almost constantly covered in rainclouds for the past few weeks. The hurricanes were nice to us last year, and I hope they will be the same this year.

We got slammed four years ago from Hurricane Charley and a few others, and there's still some cleanup going on here and there. The construction company I work for ended up getting plenty of work doing hurricane restoration in Charlotte County after Charley hit, and some of it is still going on.

Thanks for all the welcomes! Great to hear from other Floridians as well!

Thank God I'm an atheist.
