Jingoism
Who else is tired of Jingoisitic idiots who call us unpatriotic for not supporting something the government does - or saying "If you don't like it get out of the country" often suggesting a particularly unpleasant country for a destination? Note they didn't seem to think questioning Bill Clinton was unpatriotic. Often it's for being against the war in Iraq or Under God/In God we Trust/ God Bless America. " You see a lot of posts like that online (often in all caps and containing numerous misspellings and grammatical errors. ) I happen to think the Constitution is more important than the flag or grandstanding nationalism. Patriotism is supporting your country. Nationalism is thinking your country is better than any other and can do no wrong. The first is good. The second is a recipe for disaster.

I agree. I was nice to see Obama go after McCain for that bullshit last night.
There was an interesting article in Time magazine a month or so ago detailing the difference between how conservatives and liberals view patriotism. It basically comes down to many conservatives taking the "don't talk about my mama" approach, viewing any criticism as outright rejection of any and all past accomplishments, and being suspicious of programs that seek to improve America because it would ruin (in their minds) what we have. While it kicks the shit out of a lot of of others there is clearly work to be done.
The idea that America is not a static country, that it's promise is about what can be done more than what has been done, and that what makes it great is that you can change things that are wrong (Rather than just get used to it.) is a more liberal perspective.
The conservative perspective is clearly based on fear of the unknown. Their energy, law enforcement, diplomatic, and economic policies all have the same thread running through it. "It's not working because we haven't done it hard enough". It couldn't possibly be because it's a flawed plan.
I prefer to think that trying to improve our situation is not an insult to previous innovators but a testament to the lessons they taught us.
It's not unpatriotic. It's progress.

but proof, proof is the bottom line for everyone."

Nothing this hard should taste so beefy.
I liked the way Al Franken put it - that Liberals love America like adults love each other - they love each other but want to correct any problems with each other. Conservatives love America like a 3 year old loves his mommy - America could never be wrong and anyone who criticizes her is bad.
It's silly how they always reply with China or Iran (years ago it was usually Russia. ) They don't say "Why don't you move to England? " or "Why don't you move to Australia? " Maybe because they only want to bring up countries that are clearly worse places to live instead on one that is as good or maybe better...

Yeah Matt...
Used to have a small bumper sticker that read,
"America... Love her or CHANGE her"
Bought it cause it was during times when that
"love it or LEAVE it, crap was going on.
One day a guy in a big truck and Texan hat pulls up in a
parking spot across from me, sees it, and yells out,
"Hey, what the hells that sticker all about?"
I just looked at him and with a nice, friendly smile said,
"Exactly what you think it does, bud. Excatly what you think it does."
I come back an hour and a half later and a little piece
of it is ripped off. Actually was surprised the whole thing wasn't gone.
That was my first experience with pathetic sticker vandals.
Bill Hicks.
Patriotism is a love of country. As an outsider, I have observed that many fans of Faux News Network in the US appear to have confused the difference between country & government.
Stop that... It's silly.
The word jingo sounds funny.
Very rough edit, if any of my teachers saw this [currently studying Graphic Design] They would probably fail me in the classes that I'm not even taking jet .

Ignoring the rough aspect, It's not a bad composition, but the typography is pretty shitty. I'm at uni studying the graphic design as well
Wish in one hand, shit in the other, see which one fills up first.
Oh yes, borderlining horrible even. Considering that was maybe 10 minutes top in Paint.net though, not too bad though. However I am reminded that whenever you use the word 'considering' in the way I just did it's really just shifting the goal posts to make your work seem less like utter shit.
Ideally the text would have started low and curved alongside the falling Jenga Tower, getting larger as it went until until To was right over the top of the highest block of the tower, and War was big in all caps beside the tower, perfectly straight. I'm not sure if one or two lines would have worked better, probably one.
Maybe I might work on a more polished version that actually incorporates elements of design into it, but I try not to use Photoshop too much because I have my computer's display properties set into a high contrst blood red on pure black scheme, and unfrotunately the people who programmed photoshop made it so the text is always black, meaning in my default color scheme its impossible to see any of the words unless I am actively hovering over them. Maybe I'll whip one up in MS Publisher, its word art feature would be perfect. (I work on a PC, boldly defying the 'Artists use Macs' stereotype! )

Yeah Matt...
Those "America - Love it or leave it" bumper stickers are retarded. If they can't learn to love everyone on this earth, then they can just move to Mars.
