I ran into another GODLESS HEATHEN

Today at a gas station the cashier guy noticed my, "Born again atheist" hat and my " I think so therefore I'm dangerous" t-shirt and said, " I like your hat and t-shirt", I asked him if he was an atheist too and he said yes.

I said "Do you know how hard it is to find other atheists"(I live in a southern state rual)

That was cool. It is hard here to find other atheists, it is like reading a "Where's Waldo" book.

Awesome.  Applause to you,

Awesome.  Applause to you, Brian, for having the balls to wear the shirt and hat in the first place.

Even though there are more atheists around here (DC) than many of you all are used to, a lot of people tell me I'm fucking insane going to our events wearing my Beltway Atheists pin on the subway, etc. as opposed to just putting it on when I get there... however, I've met so many others atheists this way.

good for you brian! I have

good for you brian! I have met about 4-5 people in the last year that were atheists, they either saw my pin that says "Just Say No God" or they see a t-shirt from the evolvefish website. Only one of those people were from my area tho. the rest were from areas in the next county over... I always get looks of disgust and such when people read the pin, and i just laugh at them. but good for you keep it up!

This is very interesting and very sad.  That it's even an issue!  In Australia which is a secular country, atheism is not an issue.  Certainly any politician who proffered his religions credentials would be jeered off the platform and no politician would ever demean himself by submitting to a grilling by the clergy as I saw in during the US Primaries.  The only religious leader I know of (Rev Fred Nile) who has had any impact at all was ridiculed and his head in effigy was carried on a platter in the Sydney Gay Mardi Gras Parade.  It was the star turn and wildly cheered.  He has also been bankrupted due to umpteen defamation cases brought by those who were offended by the Rev's public objection to their "immoral" activities.  I'd like to see that happen to Pat Robertson!!!  Apart from a few derided pockets of 'happy-clappies' (Pentecostals), religion is on the run in Australia and the churches are virtually empty on Sundays.   I haven't been to the USA but it is a pity that in the 21st century people still take religion seriously enough to arouse comment in public places when you wear an atheist pin or T-Shirt.

"Balls"? No I don't have "balls". I am simply tired of the rehtoric of the cry for freedom, and than when I do the same they get all bitchy.

Metallica lyrics say it best,

"You can do it your own way

As long as it's how I say".

I am a physicall "pussy" I cant fight worth a shit. I do fear physical harm. BUT, I do not fear intellectuall boldness.

I think it takes more to think than it does to use fists. Theism is a club mentality that teaches that defending daddy is more important than finding out if one is wrong.

I don't do it because I want a fight, I do it because I can and if that controversy opens doors to both theists and atheists to at least talk, that is worth it to me.

Jeez, it must be hard living

Jeez, it must be hard living out there. Most of my good friends are atheists. In fact Christians seem to be a minority here.
