Disciple,As you can tell, we

Disciple,

As you can tell, we don't put much stock in God existing, let alone "remembering that He loves us." As a result, any reference to the Bible supporting God's existence, or God's existence supporting the Bible, or God loving us, or anything like that, kinda makes us laugh.

We can be obnoxious if we think you are being irrational, but as long as you remember that we value rational thought rather than a blind faith in God, you should get along with us just fine.

Welcome, and good luck.

OK, I'll start a debate with you:

Religion is a drug.

You are a junky(i.e. disciple). You get high when you think about the invisible man looking out for you and punishing the people against you. This drug acts as an opiate to kill the pain and worry of life and death.

You have no proof other than your 'personal experience' (i.e your high).

You will stick to your faith drug unless the effects wear off and you can't get a good 'high' anymore. You need to state in a state of strong delusion in order to keep getting your 'high' from religion. You will also stay with your religion if you have family/peer pressure or preasure from a girlfriend/wife.

Why am I wrong?

OH and ... I am not sure what your priest, pastor, best friend, mother, father  or neighbor told you about atheists but, we aren't revolting against  a 'god' it is a rise against the ancient thought process held by those who still cling to the belief in a silly legend.

Ooooh.  Scary. Thanks for telling me.  Now, is there anything in particular you'd like to know about atheists?  Honestly, you can probably learn a lot just by reading as many threads as you can.  All sarcasm aside, if you ask an honest question with an open mind, most of us will give you an honest respectful answer.I hope you've already seen that we're not particularly impressed with threats, though.  Save it for Sunday School, ok?

Do you know that or are you guessing?

"Physical reality” isn’t some arbitrary demarcation. It is defined in terms of what we can systematically investigate, directly or not, by means of our senses. It is preposterous to assert that the process of systematic scientific reasoning arbitrarily excludes “non-physical explanations” because the very notion of “non-physical explanation” is contradictory.

Welcome!
I recommend you to try some available radio shows, they will show you, how strong Christian you should be here. It seems you don't know atheists very well, so if you don't have a philosophic education, I recommend you to learn about a common arguments and fallacies. I certainly needed that a lot, and I'm not even a Christian.

disciple wrote:

I know, I felt that, the feeling of love, and absolute, unconditional friendship during one of my meditations. And one more important thing was there. Or wasn't, exactly said. No Bible, no words, no idols. Not even unbearable holiness, quite opposite, it was characteristic by unconditional, thus literally non-judging love. I won't start believing in Jahweh, it certainly wasn't him. Maybe Vishnu?

disciple wrote:

Sure, it happens to a lot of people every day, and I don't think there's anything personal about it.

___________________________
Btw, I just had read a theory... It is rather a part of human society analysis. According to this, every human society, regardless of culture or geographic position, has a partial, greater or lesser religiosity. And, every such a religion has three characteristics in common:
- teaching about the nature of God and man
- symbolism
- certain essential teachings
There is an important inner structure of truth, which is the same in all nations and lands, and a lot of useless cultural ballast around it, which basically creates the differences between religions. When people will confront their beliefs and find the structure of truth in there, then they will be able to formulate an objective religion, objective truth. Then, all theology will be thrown away, theology is a speculation, saying "we don't know" by many words, it will be replaced by understanding of that truth. This understanding will also affect agnosticism, maybe even cure it by knowledge.
Until then, there will be a lot of ending traditions, revolt against Churches, theology, dogma, but also tendencies for self-determination, tearing down old norms, old mind barriers, and barriers between faiths and races.
The religions will be thoroughly researched and studied. Soon, two main groups of people will emerge. First, there will be reactionaries, insisting on traditions, old ways, old theologies. Those people acknowledges an authority, whatever, prophets, Bible, theology, rather than a new, but true and enlightened non-authoritative individuals. Devotion and love is typical for them, but they refuse intellect, and fanatism and intolerance are also characteristic. They are mostly of older generation. But in their generation, there is also a hope, and this hope for them is in becoming a member of the second group.
The second group is relatively small, but growing. Those are intellectual mystics, knowers of the reality, and, surprisingly, loving God, though they doesn't belong to any religion or organization. They're of all races nations, complexion colors, and all philosophy directions. But still, they use the same symbols, speaks the same "language", walk the same path, refuse the same ballast and isolated the same basic principles of faith. They keep no secrets, they freely exchange their holy books. They are essentially the unifiers of the world's religiosity.

Most of the young generation is aware of those two groups, with reactionary worshippers of doctrine, and subjective mystics, but they're quite chaotic, because they acknowledge both groups. They know only their need for freedom and knowledge. They despise the tradition of past, they refuse the old formulations of truth. They refuse the first group, but are not yet anchored in the worldview of the second group, so they're very unsure and chaotic.

And so these forces rocks the world, the old group, new group, and undecided crowd. It seems the described process already started some time ago, this analysis and prediction is a several decades old. I hope the inner truth will be soon formulated, scientifically if possible (because it should be a very fundamental natural law) and so the agnosticism, ignorance and division will be replaced by understanding. Until then, it's good to see how religional authorities are forced to formulate exactly their beliefs, so they can be exposed, examined, and evaluated.

The 1980 Shining movie

The 1980 Shining movie sucked ass. It pissed Steven King off how much they changed from the book. There was a made for tv movie about 10 years ago with Rebecca De Mornay and the one guy from that show "Wings" playing the parents that was way better and followed the book.

Yeah, I remember how King was pissed at director Stanley Kubrick for tweaking his book but I still like the original film better....even though, as you said, it isn't as close to Kings' vision for the movie.

The updated version just didn't scare or startle me in the least. Could be though, that I was expecting too much. I still liked it ok, just not nearly as well as Kubrick's film.

Apology for my part of the derailment to the thread.

Oh and DDApe.... is it your bar that accounts for the odd (335 lbs.) amount ?

There were a few reasons I didn't like the 1980 version - including the stupidity of the kid talking to his finger and Jack Nicholson's hammy overacting.

Don't know what I can bench now, but when I took weight training in college I was able to get up to 70 lbs. Since I'm more than 10 years older and that was after a half semester of doing it, and having more physical activity in general than now, I'd have to guess around 40 maybe 50 lbs.

The bar's 45 pounds.  Then

The bar's 45 pounds.  Then three 45 pound plates each side--that's 270 total.  Then a couple of tens.

45+270+20=335.  I don't know what's odd about that, exactly.

And I totally agree on Kubrick's Shining adaptation.  The novel's not bad for early Stephen King, but Kubrick made a classic out of it.  I rarely get the creeps from movies, but I still get jumpy when I re-watch it.

Yo dude,I used to be in the

Yo dude,

I used to be in the same position as you were, except for on a different forum.

If you are here to learn about Atheism, then you will find plenty of information here. To begin I would suggest reading "am I agnostic or am I atheist."
http://www.rationalresponders.com/am_i_agnostic_or_atheist

I am both Agnostic and Atheist. If that doesn't make sense you should check that link out. I know you are neither but It will give a clear explanation as to what agnostics and atheists are. The idea that being an Atheist means that we are revolting against God, is incorrect.

If your intentions are to spread the word of God, then you are off to a good start by stating that you want to learn about Atheists. All Atheists have one thing in common, they lack a belief in a God. Some believe in Love, Some believe in Generosity. Some think God could exist, others think God doesn't exist.

And if I had a dollar bill for all the things I've done
There'd be a mountain of money piled up to my chin

Actually, my excuse is: I've not seen any of the BlackAdder series.

Sorry Sad

The bar's 45 pounds.  Then three 45 pound plates each side--that's 270 total.  Then a couple of tens.

45+270+20=335.  I don't know what's odd about that, exactly.

And I totally agree on Kubrick's Shining adaptation.  The novel's not bad for early Stephen King, but Kubrick made a classic out of it.  I rarely get the creeps from movies, but I still get jumpy when I re-watch it.

Just that the total (bar) amount ends in an odd number. I don't know many guys or fitness centers that use a bar that isn't an even number. The one I use is 60lb plus then two 45 plates each side + two fives each for a total of 260.... but I do 2 sets of three reps in my standard workout, which also includes other lifting plus treadmill, stair climb etc. About 45min to an hour-- three to four times a week.

I'm considering cutting back on the bench and the incline bench though. Too much pain especially in joints (elbows, wrists) and surrounding areas.  Need to start accepting my age.

Attention whore

Mr Disciple is just here under the guise of being a christian...he's just a poor shmuck so desperate for attention he's willing to accept rejection. It was his goal when he signed on here to be ridiculed, so he can rationalize further withdrawing from truth.

So here you go Douche-nozzle...I'll give you what you came here for....I hope you grow an inoperable brain tumor, and spend the rest of your life dribbling into a cup until you have to sell everything you own to pay the insurance premiums.

Now have a nice day, jizzbucket.

My ancestors allegedly

My ancestors allegedly killed Jesus. I hope he didn't take offence, otherwise I'm screwed.

Don't worry, he more than likely never existed.

Don't take it personally. Your ancestors at these times were what Christians are now, if Jesus would appear today, most of them would want to kill him again, for a reason, that he must be Antichrist. One of many good things about atheists is, that they don't see the Antichrist behind every corner and politician, and so they're likely to act reasonably, when exposed to most fundamental Christian situations, (unlike Christians themselves) which are:
a) if Jesus would exist
b) if he would appear in these times

Thus, as Hambydammit showed before, God would prefer atheists.

Spot on, good Luminon, my

Spot on, good Luminon, my friend in awe as I ....  Communication is hard. I await the perfect metaphor, as the theory of everything ! What I am came before me, as what I am is after me , as all is connected, as all is one, eternal, as is always NOW.

I am all that is, past and present and future, as one , as eternal. Zero magic involved. There is no master creator of phenomena but ourselves, as we are all that can be known.
