Basic introduction, first time poster.

Hello, non-believers.

It's great to see a website based around atheism for a change.  I watched the debate with Brian and Kelly vs Kirk and Ray.  I have to say there were weak points and strong points from both sides, but, being radically logical, Brian and Kelly just provided better evidence and I commend you both.  This was not the only atheist/theist debate that I watched and, I don't mean to sound like an asshole, but the other one I watched was much more informative and scientific and the RRS debate I felt held more substance was entitled "Does God NOT Exist?" Part two.  Part one was a one-on-one deal with a radical Muslim named Hassanain Rajabali and an ex-Christian preacher/missionary named Dan Barker whose life revolved heavily around religion, but turned to Atheism for personal reasons.  Part two involved Dan Barker and a partner named Richard Carrier whose field is physics among other scientific fields or, in otherwords, very, very informed.  Their opponents were Hassanain Rajabali and an Islamic radical named Michael Corey who will probably make your blood boil at how ignorant he is.  In any case, I'm not going to pick apart the debate; just go watch it yourself.  Here is a link to the youtube user that has part one with just Dan Barker and Hassanain Rajabali and part two with Dan Barker/Richard Carrier vs Hassanain Rajabali/Michael Corey:

Anyway, I'm just introducing myself and making myself useful to spread the word of theist ignorance with a little common sense.  I have a LiveJournal Blog so, if it wouldn't be crossing the line since I barely signed up, I would like a blogger badge since I write weekly and cover a wide array of topics that I think many people on these forums would enjoy reading.

Until my next post, keep the "real" in "reality."

Welcome to the hizzle! To be

Welcome to the hizzle! To be fair, Dan Barker has way more experience with that sort of thing (he's been doing it over 20 years and has been co-president of the FFRF for at least 3 - along with his wife since his mother in law retired. ) Richard Carrier was on a few shows here a while back. He even got drunk with the RRS on one! &nbspEye-wink

Matt Shizzle has been banned from the Rational Response Squad website. This event shall provide an atmosphere more conducive to social growth. - Majority of the mod team

Everyone is a bit weak the

Everyone is a bit weak the first time out. With time and effort comes experience. I'm sure they'll get better with every sequential debate they participate in.

Welcome to the site. Smiling

Wait a minute.How friggin'

Wait a minute.

How friggin' long have Kirk and Ray been at their schtick???? Way longer than most of you have had internet access.

Brian and Kelly were expecting an 'A' debate and instead Todd 'You Hate Jesus' Friel chauferred Kirk and Ray to the auditorium in the trademarked Way Of The Master CLOWN CAR.

I had no doubt in my mind that Brian and Kelly were going to walk away from that auditorium with the almost stereotypical atheist grin/sneer. To this day, I still pity poor Ray for his choice of 'friends'. Particularly since Ray was such a good sport on RRS Show #7 and was nice on Helllbound Alllee two weeks prior to that.

And Who won the debate???

That's right, boys and girls. Brian and Kelly handed us Kirk and Ray's biblical balls on a platter during a debate that was whose idea???

That's right, boys and girls... It was Kirk. According to Ray, it was Kirk's idea to exclude the bible when trying to prove the existence of god. During the debate, Ray even invoked the bible despite promising the opposite. I'm not sure who your public speaking teacher was, but that would have earned an interruption and an automatic 'F' from Mr. Henderson class of '91.

Kirk's contribution.... the BULL-FROG, the CROCODUCK.

The audience was so quiet from shock at Kirk because they were expecting him to put on a funny nose and pull scarves from Ray's hip pocket for the remainder of his time. In fact, it was so quiet that I heard Sapient say what I had been acheing to hear from the crowd......  "Oh my god. What a numbnut." SEE??? It was so stupid, it made an atheist utter that. To this day, I still have trouble raising both arms over my head because I laughed so hard that evening.

Incidentally, I don't hear Nightline calling y'all soliciting your participation.

I don't see how you can take

I don't see how you can take such issue with the simple truth as I stated it. Yes, they won. Still, they were rookies. It's not an insult, it's a fact. An acknowledgement of reality. I would be the same if I had stepped up instead of them. You as well, unless you have experience I'm not aware of.

Perhaps you weren't directing your comment in my direction, but you left it far too vague for me not to take offense.

Well, it's hard to argue

Well, it's hard to argue with issues that have been researched and proven when your reasoning revolves around faith and fiction.  Kirk isn't a stupid debater, but Ray was clearly in denial and blind to facts.  I think at one point in his life, Kirk was teetering on the brink of becoming a Christian, but people like Ray pushed him over the edge and the end result is what we see now; a delusional shell of a human being with good intentions.  Brian and Kelly did their deed, brought what they could and put up a good fight, but they weren't the best I've seen.  However, considering their opponents, they didn't need to really go all out anyway.

No. I didn't take issue with the response. I take issue with the fact that it wasn't celebrated as much as it should have been.

Here were two people having never been on primetime television taking on the alleged big dogs of christian evangeliswith a GI-FUCKING-GANTIC budget of money that includes a RI-FUCKING-DICULOUS staff payroll including their FULL TIME radio/podcast crew.

And they PWNED them. Brian could have said it was the tenth law of flux capacitors and it didn't matter because reason and education WON with Brian and Kelly as its representatives.

Yet somehow at every turn, it seems we discount the very fact that WAY more was achieved than just winning a 'debate'.

Perhaps one point of an admission of faith on my part is that they (RRS and even us) will continue to raise the awareness of atheism despite the fact that christianity's budget and 'following' is currently immeasurable.
