New guy from the Bible Belt
Hey all, I just ran across the forum and it looks like a fun place to hang out at, a little about myself, I'm a single guy in my middle 40's, I was born and raised in the southern USA in Alabama, deep in the middle of the bible belt, lucky for me my parents were not very religious and I was never forced to attend church as a child other than a few times going to Sunday school where I think the folks just wanted to get rid of the kids for awhile for some time to themselves, I was also lucky that I escaped being baptized as my parents wanted us to be old enough to make that decision on our own. Now it seems the older I get the more ridiculous religion seems to be and I've starting to speak out more against it in several forums I belong and in person too, well that's all for now....Later

Hi there and welcome to the forums.
I am also from Alabama - and am back in Dothan (in 1994) after12 years in Seattle. Married grandfather in late 40's, was dunked (baptized) at about 12 'cuz I didn't want to go to hell. Parents still very religious but I always read way too much science (as if that's possible) and broke away from religion in late teens. No one here knows I am a strong atheist because I would lose my job (and not be able to get another one here) and my mother would cry every day the rest of her life. I do speak with a few non-believers locally and talk to the believers around me about evolution (it's ok if you tell them God directed it - which is BS) and tolerance. I lurk a lot here - there are many good resources here and good people.
Currently reading "Philosophers without Gods" and it is very good. Dan Dennett reccomended it.
