Musicians Don't Like Having Their Music Used as Torture

Gee, I wonder why?

STORY

Can you imagine being a musician who has worked hard for years on your music, and wants people to enjoy it - and then learning that the government is playing your music to FUCKING TORTURE PEOPLE?????

It's true listening to anything loud enough and long enough would be painful (and some music it would be a very short time and not even that loud. ) But that's just got to hurt - hearing that listening to your music is a form of torture.

The Men Who Stare at Goats

There's this great book called The Men Who Stare at Goats, by Jon Ronson. It's a great tale of the army and research into woo-woo. One section is dedicated to a group who were paid for years to try to kill goats using only their minds. Another bit was about an army manual that describes using a new-age-variant spirituality to create better soldiers.

This leads up to the torture of Iraqi prisoners using Barney's theme, over and over again. They placed a solitary Iraqi in an empty shipping container, and played Barney 24/7, very loudly. This sounds funny, except the pictures that accompany the essay are.... well, emotional, anyway.

It's not just NIN. Disney music works as well. They used some Disney music, and the composer joked with Roson that he wanted residuals.

At least they eventually

At least they eventually realized it was a waste of time and money. Of course the woo-warriors are still saying we should have kept it up and spread all kinds of stories about the Russians being able to do all kinds of stuff with psychic warfare (so why didn't they win the Cold War or even Afghanistan? ) This shit shows up on the Discover Channel / History Channel every so often. But I've brought up before how much it annoys me when these channels broadcast pseudoscientific bullshit (of course that's what sells, unfortunately. )

BTW as to the original topic, could this be a way that really, really bad singers could make money - ie sell their recordings to the CIA/Army - and not using the music of those who object to the practice?

You mean I can still realize my dream of becoming an operatic pop metal singer?

Bush:'We do nawt

Bush:

'We do nawt torture!'

Man I hate that guy.

Nigel: Don't forget the little 'arms race' America had with the Nazis regarding who could create a division of psychics the fastest. Sticking out tongue I forget what that was called... 'Project Grey' or something like that.

Of course Bush can say that

Of course Bush can say that if he only defines torture as things like thumbscrews and the rack - hell, Bush/Cheney didn't even consider waterboarding torture - I don't see them volunteering for it like Chris Hitchens did - and decided it was. McCain thought it was too and he was likely the only US politician to have actually ever experienced torture.

Yeah. But Neocons make a point of not listening to anyone with experience in something.

They want a "fresh" approach.

Jesus tittyfucking

Jesus tittyfucking Christ!

That article pisses me off! How fucking dare they the fucking fuckers!!!

I'm a musician (amatour) and I'm actually not a fan of interlectual property rights.

I don't consider "my" music as "mine".

Anyone who listens to it has as much "right" to it as me.

But if my band had an album out, and I found out that it was being used at Gitmo, I would sue the American Government to hell and back, and I'm not even sure that would satify me.

Fuckers!!!

Man, I've got white knuckles now!

I can't say anymore...

Well I was born an original sinner
I was spawned from original sin
And if I had a dollar bill for all the things I've done
There'd be a mountain of money piled up to my chin

Y'know what'd be cool? After the first week, play "Idiot Son of an Asshole" by NoFX. Once. Just to make him think things might get better. Then kick up Ministry a couple of db.
