Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye!

Who else besides me is going to tip their mug or ting their wine glass today!

Darth Vader and his hand puppet Mr Shoe are being kicked out. They have to turn in their keys. But, they should not get their deposit back and they should have to pay for leaving slimey ring around our image and economy. Even Scrubbing Bubbles look at that mess and say, "I cant do it".

I do not envey Obama having to clean up the shit Bush left behind, but I am certainly glad, in any case, Bush cant fuck us up any more.

Amen to that. Especially

Amen to that. Especially since I live in "A Different Country", which is how I imagine Mr. Bush conceives of the places he goes when the plane takes him outside America. I have a feeling that Mr. Obama actually knows where Canada is, and will continue the policy of not bombing us.

With Mr. Bush, I wasn't so sure. We have a fair amount of oil, see, and ... oh, you know the rest.

I am off work today and will

I am off work today and will have the TV tuned in through bedtime!

Normally I do not get all choked up and emotional towards these types of things. There is some feeling of hope deep inside of me that Obama will be all that he claims and we expect him to be. I predict I may shed a tear or two during the day and I think the build up to that moment will be what I have seen in peoples faces and eyes and what I have heard in their voices regarding this new president.

The pride, hope and excitement that I have witnessed in friends, family and complete strangers has been a long time coming. It feels good to see this nation gather around something again...around someone.

I am conflicted because

I am conflicted because although our country has made great strides in getting over the issue of race, Obama still has to suck up to religion dispite "No Religious Test" being in our Constitution. I wish I had thought of it sooner, but it would have been great if an atheist organization were to hold up in front of a camera for the huge jumbo trons on the mall, "No Religious Test", as he puts his hand on the bible. Maybe it is something atheists and secularists can acceave for the next time.

The public should be taught that you don't have to believe in the Christian god to run for office and people can vote for you if you do. There is nothing stopping any non-Christian citizen from running for, or holding any public office, besides the false belief by most, that being a Christian is manditory to be President.

This is the last theocratic cealing stopping all citizens from being equal, and although I want to be happy for Obama, I also as much, want us to get over religious and political labels as well. We still have, as a nation, a back of the bus attitude, but instead of blacks, those who do not believe in the Christian god still have to look at the sign on the oval office door, "Non Christians need not apply".

I am not watching it. It certainly is a great moment in human history, but again, I am completely nausiated to the fact that religion still remains a "test" dispite "No Religious Test".

I think it is rediculous for any label to litterally seek a "Paradise". That is not what I expect. It is not about, for me, seeking a utopia in which religion does not exist, it will. It is also not about shutting the door on Christianity partisipating in goverrnment. It is for me, about opening the door of political oportunity to all who meet the Constitutional requirements to disire to run for office.

Utopias are what nationalist seek. Utopias are what theocracies seek. We live in reality and I just want to wake people up to what the Constitution says and what citizens rights are.

I want the mass public to know that there is no "Christians only" sign on the White House door. I want people to know that if they disire, just like Obama did, if they want to run, and they convince enought people to vote for them, then their religion does not matter, they got the job fair and square.

TO ALL THOSE READING THIS WHO CALL THEMSELVES UNITED STATES CITIZENS, AND ARE BORN IN THIS COUNTRY, YOU CAN IF YOU WANT APPLY AND RUN FOR ANY OFFICE, INCLUDING THAT OF PRESIDENT!

There is nothing stopping you, except the phobia of the Christian majority. It is up to you to dispell the myth of religious mandates and compete with the majority and SHOW them that you are just as capable and worthy of holding office no matter what your personal religious beliefs are.

I have as many high-hopes for the new administration as the next person, but I do wonder if Obama is being over-hyped a little bit. You know, like that movie that been so built up by recommendations that when you finally get to see it, there's no possible way it can live up to your expectations?

I suppose in a weird sort of way, Obama owes some of his immense popularity to Bush. The outgoing President is so unpopular that it's hard to imagine that at least some of the Obama-mania isn't driven by an "anyone else is better" attitude.

I guess I'm just trying to be realistic that two wars and an economic slowdown aren't all going to end this week just because Bush is gone.

I think Obama had some

I think Obama had some drinks as well. How do you fuck up the "repeat after me" swearing in process?

It was actually the other dude who fucked-up. He didn't read it properly. Sticking out tongue (though Obama did jump the gun a bit at the beginning)

I thought the same thing. Can anyone here honestly say they wouldn't be a little nervous having to shoulder such a large task? I was pleased that he mentioned the religious diversity of the country. It's a step back in the right direction from Bush's "Christian Nation." I'm sure the fundies will continue to oppress others, but at least Obama won't be completely backing them.

I for one hope he can live up to even half of what's expected of him. He's got more on his plate than any man should have to swallow.

it's 1:37 P.M. irreguardless!

It was the Cheif Justice who screwed up;  Obama (subservient at this point) had to react to the error;  without breaking up and laughing.

He did say in a clear loud voice, "....and to non-believers..." .    no other president has done that.

I will stand by what I said months ago on this site.   Obama chose to become a christen on the same day he chose to run for election.

Forgive me one and all if I turn out to be correct.

He mentioned our demograph

He mentioned our demograph in a positive light, which is a start if nothing else.

Personally, I was most excited by the part of his speech that dealt with harnessing renewable energy. We'll have to see whether he can meet that kind of very radical departure from typical North America policy or not (fuck, even the Canadian Liberal Party hasn't even managed to go that far).

I am proud of my country but

I am proud of my country but we, as I said, still have a long way to go. I didn't watch it because I wouldn't have been able to get over the superflous godspeak and would have wanted to throw a brick at the tv. Not in any sense that religious people shouldn't have rights, but in that most people, as I said in prior posts, do not understand that the godspeak is voluntary, not manditory, to hold office.

I am not going to feel like a full citizen utill, and it may not happen in my lifetime, untill I see a citizen taking that oath and swearing in on something other than a bible, or merely holding up their hand, and only reciting the words of the Constitution without adding anything. That is when I will truely feel like a full citizen. I am thrilled to see that we have gotten over race when it comes to public office, but we need to get over religious labels and party labels as well.

I just had a thought. How what is Racheal Maddow going to do now without her "Lame Duck" segment on Bush? And on a related note, "Who the fuck cares, the bastard is out of office!"

His detractors are going to try to paint him as a left wing pratfall trying to obscure the Jesus written homopobic Constitution. That wont work. He may fail, but it wont be because of his race, but merely because of his preformance. It would be hard for him not to improve considering the steamy dog pile Bush left him and if he does, we should treat him with the same scrutiny we rightfully aim at Bush.

This historic event puts responsiblity squarely where it belongs, in that of actions not words. I simply don't know how long it will take to get this country out of the rut it is in. But one obstical that is no longer there is one that never should have been there in the first place.

You just insulted Darth Vader. Bush was more akin to Grand Moff Tarkin and his "fear = control" methods. Vader was much smarter.
