Hard-Wired for belief and controlling the herd

I'm sure I've seen someone make these arguments before, but a recent New Scientist article has highlighted the idea that our brains may be hard-wired towards inventing a sky-daddy.

There's an additional article in there on crowd mentality which I thought was of some interest as well.
