America becoming less Christian, survey finds

Quote:

And, he said, it is now more socially acceptable than it once was to admit having no religion.

"You're not declaring yourself a total pariah. The culture has changed in a way that makes it easier to say, 'No, I don't have a religion. Even in the past year, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama feel obliged to talk about 'those of no faith,'" he pointed out. Obama mentioned people without faith in his inaugural address in January, making him the first president to do so.

I find it strange that there

I find it strange that there is an implication that atheism is frowned upon more than gays are. Since I'm pretty sure the atheist population far exceeds the gay population.

Mostly, when these implications are made, I think they're just exaggerations.

The atheist population is

The atheist population is larger than the gay population, but you should consider the number of gaytheists.  Alright, there's no stats that I can find, but I do imagine that a good deal of gays, propably disproportionatly, are atheist and thus constitute some considerable plurality of the atheist population.

To be conpletely honest, I wrote that only so that I could use the term 'gaytheist', however, I still think there's a considerable number of gaytheists.

...gaytheist.

Rolls off the tongue rather nicely I must say, Not that theists are gay or anything

On a more related note, is

On a more related note, is anyone suprised the number of atheists is rising? I would expect it to continue rising aslong as people continue pushing.
