Hello~

I suppose I should say Hi. I'm new.

Not a new atheist, just new to the forums. I'm in the bible belt of the USA, and am open about my atheism here.

It leads to a lot of harsh words, but I find more comedy out of the people that get offended by a question or two than anything else. It also has led me to a somewhat negative outlook for our species though.

An example was a few days ago when I was being hassled by the Pro-Life organisation on my campus. Yes, there is a student organisation accepted by the university I go to dedicated just to that. He said that abortion should be illegal, because it is murder.

I asked him, "What will the punishment be then?" and he stared at me blankly. "You know, punishment. If it is a crime, and someone breaks it...you have to punish them. Murder would probably be prison right?"

ProLifer: "Uhm...I guess so..but I didn't think that far ahead. First we need to make sure everyone understands it's wrong."

Me: "But you are pushing to make it illegal, how is that too far ahead?....That is the direct result of making it illegal. Do you think the women and doctors should be imprisoned? Or death penalty?"

ProLifer: "...I don't know...that's too far ahead..."

So, yeah. With foresight like this, I have complete faith in humanity.

I joined here to see how things are in an online atheist community, which is kind of the opposite to what I am used to. I frequently find myself the only atheist in my classes whenever a topic involving morality, judgements, or anything relating to the world around us that may involve "faith". Being put on the spot so much, please don't get upset if I seem a little bitter about the unwashed masses, I mean majority of people! Laughing out loud

Welcome!

Welcome!

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

 Welcome Clockcat, didn't

Welcome Clockcat, didn't get a chance to say much with the drama on the other threads. Hope you enjoy it here.

In case I didn't say it

Rofl. That seems to be a recurring theme. So many people think something needs to change, but they don't bother thinking about the consequences and reactions.

I'm a firm proponent of having an actual plan as opposed to mindlessly tossing ideas into the air. It makes for far less self ownage on the internet and in life. Smiling
