MILK

Everyone needs to see this movie. I cried throughout the whole thing and I usually don't do that with movies. Not only was Sean Penn insanely amazing and the cinematography/acting beautiful and engaging, but it held such an important message for this country.

I didn't cry so much for the death of Milk, as he was indeed a martyr and did not die in vain, but for all the homosexuals and minorities out there under serious persecution. This movie will make you angry just as any movie on civil rights for African Americans will.

Not to mention that Anita Bryant is one creepy fucker.

I would like to see this

I would like to see this movie, but I hate Sean Penn too much to ever see any of his films. I can not support that man in any way. Maybe I'll 'borrow' this movie from the internet. That way I can see it, but I won't be giving any money to Sean Penn.

Care to elaborate, or should I start searching for dirt on Google?

Well, I have not seen

Well, I have not seen it yet. Based solely on your review, I will (even though it was already on the short list).

From what you have to say, I would also suggest “Astronaut Farmer” with Billy Bob Thornton.

I could review it here but it would detract from the point of the thread. Just see both movies.

Why so much hate for Mr Penn?

Sean Penn likes to make

Sean Penn likes to make communist propaganda. He goes to Cuba and writes ass-kissing articles about how great Fidel and Raul are. I fear that if I see one of his films I won't be able to understand anything that he says, on account of Fidel's cock being so far down Sean Penn's throat. Ironically Fidel likes to imprison his own journalists, yet lets Sean Penn pretend to be a journalist and visit so he can write about how great living under Cuban communism is. Being a shill for Cuban communists is why I refuse to support Sean Penn in any way. I have read too much about the Cuban communist government mass killing dissidents to respect Sean Penn for supporting them. Read about La Cubaña and you'll know why I hate Sean Penn.

In any event, he was amazing playing Harvey Milk, communist supporter or not.

Jormungander writes that Sean Penn -

likes to make communist propaganda. Man are you really that lame, you sound like Bill O'Reilly. Don't you think that we here in the US are feed propaganda, when congress asked Exxon-Mobile and a few other super rich oil co.after they had record profits to lower heating fuel cost to help Americans thru the winter, they all said NO,except Citgo which is a Venezuelan oil co.and then you got Castro who has sent over 8,000 Doctors and Nurses to Pakistan when hit with an Earthquake, and they stayed there helping these refugees long after the US pulled out. Or the fact that Fidel Castro sent Doctors to Haiti and Jamaica who then sent blind people back to Cuba for eye surgery to restore they're eye sight.Sure Cuba is bad off,but why, could it be because the US has blocked all trade with Cuba, and when your an Island, you get over 90% of you needs from trade. A few years ago Muhammad Ali had rented a 747 from Canada and filled it with much needed products and then  broke US law by flying it to Cuba in order to help this small island nation that we constantly try to ruin, hoping that the people will rise up to overthrow Castro. Then you say read La Cubana, well I would advise you to read William Blum's Rogue State:A Guide to the Worlds only Superpower or check out a former CIA agent John Stockwell "Third World Traveler" or the many articles that Noam Chomsky has written,Chomsky.info

I know that Cuba likes to send doctors everywhere. I know that they have a lot of hospitals in Cuba. I also know that Castro had people mass killed for suspicion that they could enact a counter revolt. Spare me the 'Cuba does good things!' argument. That doesn't make Castro a nice man. He gathered up everyone that he felt was a danger to him and had them executed. Sean Penn writes about how great Castro is. If Sean Penn wrote about how we need to be nicer to Cuba, I would not mind. But Sean Penn doesn't do that, instead he kisses Castro's ass. So save the "US is bad and Cuba is good" speech. I know that my government is mean to Cuba and I know that it propped up a lot of terrible governments and I know that Cuba lends medical help to South America. But Castro is still a mass-murderer and Sean Penn still loves to wrote about how great Castro is. Do you really think that Cuba's friendliness now makes up for Castro being a mass-murderer? Is that what I should take from all of this? "Well he did have at least hundreds of people executed for political reasons; but he does send doctors out to help other countries and my government does maintain that embargo. So all-in-all he's a pretty good guy." Is that how I am supposed to think about the mass-murder Fidel Castro?

Though it is pretty funny that you think I sound like Bill O'Reilly. So if I don't like the mass-murderer Castro and the people who like the mass-murderer Castro, that makes me a right-wing shill?

I have read some of Chomsky's nonsense. If you know anything written by him that isn't a steaming pile of shit, please tell me and I'll read it.

Does an actor's personal

Does an actor's personal life really have that much of an effect on their performance in a movie?

...Why does it matter? If I had a Doctor that did a good job, and wrote in his personal life how "A Modest Proposal" was the best thing since sliced bread, I wouldn't give a damn about anything but how well he did his job.

As a Doctor I mean, not with the orphans.

Theism is why we can't have nice things.

That Castro is a mass murderer . O'Ok  well that changes everything -yeah right, give me a  link  to that propaganda. I'm a U.S. citizen,so it is also my government, and as for Chomsky nonsense as you call it and a steaming pile of shit, here's a good link to read an excerpt from Hegemony or Survival  www.chomsky.info/books/hegemony02.htm  and then you got the book  Superpower Principles:U.S.Terrorism against Cuba and I can't forget Michael Parenti's Real Democracy atwww.youtube.com/watch,so all in all I'm supposed to believe that the U.S. has done nothing wrong, shit we're the biggest Mass Murderer on the planet, just think back to Bush 1 with Gulf War or under Clinton we imposed sanctions on Iraq that killed over 500,000 children, that's more dead then when we dropped the A-Bomb on Japan . And that's only the tip of our mass murdering history, you got the Native Americans, the Philippines (over 200,000) Panama invasion that killed over 3,000 citizens and during the Reagan years in Guatemala,Nicaragua. Try to understand that we live in an Empire that wants to rule over  the whole planet, look up Arsenal of Hypocrisy and Addicted to War.or Howard Zinn's book "The People's History of the United States" end of story !

so all in all I'm supposed to believe that the U.S. has done nothing wrong, shit we're the biggest Mass Murderer on the planet

I never said that. You are putting words into my mouth. I know that our government is very bad. I know that they like to arm rebels to overthrow governments (mostly leftist governments) that we don't like. I know that they liked to prop up horrible despotic governments so long as those governments were against communism. Like I said in my previous post: spare me the "US is bad, Cuba is good" speech. I already know how bad our government is. But, and here is the main point of what I am trying to get across here, Castro is a mass-murderer. And that makes me not like Sean Penn because Sean Penn likes Castro so much. Nothing that you write will negate the fact that Castro is a mass-murderer. No matter how bad the US government is and no matter how helpful Cuban doctors are in relief efforts, Castro is a mass-murderer. Do you get what I'm trying to say here?

I don't even understand why you wrote that post. Did you think listing US atrocities would make me like the mass-murderer Castro? Let me spell out what I believe here: Cuba is good at relief efforts, the US government needs to stop trying to manipulate third world countries (a lot of people die from our manipulations, and a lot of other people grow to hate the US because of it, that is how terrorists are made), and Castro had at least a few hundred people killed in order to prevent a counter revolt. The first two things from that list do not negate the third thing. You can drag the "US government is bad" red herrings around all you want, but it won't make Castro any better or Sean Penn any better for being a Castro fanboy.
