Has anyone been watching the TV show "Fringe"?

I've heard a few good things about it, and I'd like to have a nice, silly, non-reality based mystery/adventure show to waste a little time on.

Any opinions?

"Anyone can repress a woman, but you need 'dictated' scriptures to feel you're really right in repressing her. In the same way, homophobes thrive everywhere. But you must feel you've got scripture on your side to come up with the tedious 'Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve' style arguments instead of just recognising that some people are different." - Douglas Murray

...Did you like the X-Files?

...Did you like the X-Files? If you did, there's a strong chance you'll dig Fringe. There's many obvious homages and parallels to it.

Unfortunately... well, J.J. pretty clearly highlights his distaste for skepticism and science in the show (there's a much stronger undercurrent of 'SCIENZ DONT KNOW THEREFOR ELDRICH HORRORS FROM BEYOND SPACE AND TIME DUNNIT!' than even X-files had with aliens and psychics), and it really put me off. It might just be that I still have really sour grapes after watching 'Knowing', though, and am being too harsh on the writers.

The casting is really solid (well, it seems so thus far anyway... which is a pretty good sign, giving that they haven't even really had time to gel together yet).

"Natasha has just come up to the window from the courtyard and opened it wider so that the air may enter more freely into my room. I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall, and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full."

crap

One of the things I loved about the X-Files is that Sculley was the eternal skeptic - and even though it took some effort to suspend disbelief at some of the plot-lines and events, the character would only be convinced with the evidence.

I don't at all mind the nonsensical and fantastic in storytelling, but anti-science really rubs me the wrong way. *bristles*

Yeah; unfortunately, there's

Yeah; unfortunately, there's no 'Sculley' character in this one. On the other hand, there isn't really a 'Moulder' either...

...Have you read, "Shadow Over Innsmouth," or "The Dunwich Horror,"? Imagine those type of stories, but with FBI characters instead of crotchety investigators doomed to go insane. Sticking out tongue

I think that's the fairest wa to characterize the show.

 Fringe is on Fox on

Fringe is on Fox on Tuesday night after American Idol, so it's start and end time may vary 5 or 10 minutes if you use a DVR.

Actually they have been on most of this season with a total of 16 episodes, so I think the cast has gelled. I have seen all of them so far and I don't agree the main theme is anti-science it's more about government and corporate conspiracy utilizing technology. In the end it's science as practiced by the somewhat mentally questionable scientist Walter and his son Peter that solve the devious plots of individual, corporate, and government instigators. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has more of an anti-science theme since AI ultimately brings the planet to its end, though it makes up for it with much Sci-Fi and bloodshed.
