Introduction plus some complaining
Erik Kaleido, is my name, which I'm sure you figured out on your own. I'm 16, and steadily losing confidence in the intelligence of my peers and people in general. So finding this site has sparked my hopes, slightly. I'm a junior at a private catholic school, which is fantastic except having to go to mass once-a-month and the school having unfair pressure from the local media on all we do because its a theistic school. Pressure which means I cant stage parodies of the "book" Twilight- titled "Twatlight" in honor of the youtube video, because of what people would say about a catholic school portraying "such things", like what, that smeyer vampires are indeed unholy and real vampires incinerate, not sparkle? Anyways....Im atheist, but I like my school, I have a religion calss, but they dont teach dogma, but rather, morals....which I admit I DO need a class on. Also covers various ways to help other people. My life has been good, but the other kids there are so....mediocre. So willing to settle for less. Not willing to work hard, they have no ambition. So I feel at odds with my friends. They complain about stuff all the time, but they never do anything, never speak up....I was bored becaue we didnt have a fencing team, my current sport obsession. So I started a team, turns out one of my teachers fenced all through his twenties, it wasnt hard. A guy I knew said it wouldnt worked, cuz he tried to do it. I asked him why...and he couldnt answer. Jealous prig. I just feel discouraged by everyone in this school. drowning in mediocrity!

Funny thing: most people are average. It's part of the definition.
Welcome to the boards. I hope you meet some freaks. Y'know, like me. The freaks are the interesting people.
High school completely sucks for freaks. That's when you have to hang out with the regular douches. You're going to love university. Life gets way better into your late 20s, and you will understand later how sad the people are who say that high school was the best years of their lives. That's some sad shit.
Anyway, it gets way better. WAY better.

High school was not the best time of my life, 4 years out of 53 would mean a real pissant life so far and my life sure as hell isn't. I liked Shakespeare and opera, still do, my peers might have thought it wierd but I was also a large football player, I wasn't any star but I wasn't bullied.
Life does get so much better when your out of high school and really living.

If man was formed from dirt, why is there still dirt?
I wish more high-school age people could be told that. All they get is bullshit. All I remember hearing at that age was bullshit.
Of course, I have no idea what kind of salary someone would have to pay me to teach high school. Holy shit. I'm thinking $10K an hour.

you sound like someone who needs to change schools. When I was young 7th grade,my teacher being a Nun and a nice person gave me some good advice, she said to me "Kenneth, you ask a lot of questions about creation and I don't know how to respond to your questions,I think that you would be better off if you went to a public school " the following year I was being taught about Evolution and Charles Darwin, which helped me to understand the REAL WORLD. Anyway, welcome to the machine
Signature ? How ?
Welcome to the real world
LOL Inorite? I started viewing people as stupid when I was 8ish. To be fair though, I am and always have been surrounded by mental midgets.

The problem with schools is they tell everyone they are special, as a result you find most people think there awesome when they infact are mentally retarded, Im a proud member of the retarded I think most here could agree with the last part
Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
No animal shall wear clothes.
No animal shall sleep in a bed.
No animal shall drink alcohol.
No animal shall kill any other animal.
All animals are equal.
Welcome!
Hang it there! In less than two years, you can either find a great career or attend a top university.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare
I'll throw in my two cents here:
I would bet dollars to doughnuts that most of the people who post here on this forum experienced similar observations through their formative years... essentially, somewhere in our synaptic pathways we were able to decipher bullshit... I too went to Catholic school and would argue the validity of theolgy with my instructors...in retrospect, not my brightest move. (They tossed me out).
So I will say this to you young man, do not allow your idealism to be your undoing. At 16, patience is probably not one of your strong points, but my advice is to take it all in...make your own notes...and apply your intellect in an environment where it is valued...College. High school rarely encourages independant thought...
Patience, Grasshopper.....if you need to vent frustration... do what high school students should do...crank to internet porn.

Good on you for noticing this. You're now officially a step ahead of your classmates.
I was just having this conversation last night with my wife (who is a university professor) and another professor from her department. It is absolutely stunning how much mediocrity there is in the student body today. Obviously these kids somehow got good enough grades in high school to get in to university, but it seems like they haven't had to work for anything in their lives (which is probably true). My wife and her fellow faculty members have noticed that even the kids who are obviously intelligent can't figure out how to get their work done.
Hang in there. High school is lame. Just get some good grades and get in to university. You'll still encounter mediocrity there, but the nice thing about university is that the more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it. I agree with what one of the previous posters said - life does get much better in your late 20's when you're done with university and have a few years of experience under your belt.
Nobody I know was brainwashed into being an atheist.
Why Believe?
In my opinion, the only real difference between pre-college/university school and work is that work pays you.

Careful. No one is saying not to dream. But do not jade yourself into thinking anyone who earns an honest living is a loser unless they earn the same pay as Donnald Trump.
Woopie Goldburg said it best on an interview on the show "Inside The Actor's Studio"
She was addressing the audiance, paraphrasing here. But basically she said that all of them are capable of being great actors, but most, if not all in that audiance of 150 or so, will not sit where she was sitting.
If life is about money and ambition defines life, then that explains why a baseball player who is mere entertainment gets paid more than a biology teacher teaching fact, who gets paid far less.
MONEY in the end, material things in the end, mean absolutely nothing. The rich person or poor person on their deathbed SHOULD, if they are sane, be thinking about how they treated others, not what title they held or what paycheck the achieved.
