Damn It Alberta is really becoming the Texas of Canda

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/2009/04/30/cgy-bill-evolution-law-alberta-classes-teachers.html

The new rules, which would require schools to notify parents in advance of "subject-matter that deals explicitly with religion, sexuality or sexual orientation," is buried in a bill that extends human rights to homosexuals. Parents can ask for their child to be excluded from the discussion.

Last time I checked Evolution has nothing to say regarding religion. Actually if they are that so afraid why not pull the science course all together I mean for the most part almost all of science contradicts the bible, and various other holy texts of various religions. All I can say is FUCK bunch of dumbass politicians and religious morons. Guess it's time to start writting e-mails to the education minister and all the media outlets in Alberta.

Kevin, I'm so sorry.

Kevin, I'm so sorry. Sticking out tongue

Really, what a bunch of bogus shit.  How does '... deals explicitly with religion, sexuality or sexual orientation,' have anything to do with the teaching of evolution?  It's ridiculous.

*Bashes head against

*Bashes head against desk*

...You know the worst part? As a result of the continual browbeating of the Alberta Teacher's Association by conservative representatives in the province (Rob Anders, I'm looking at *you*) and the ongoing effort to 'de-socialize' (re: cut-off fuding to) schools, one of the best ways to actually get a real high school science education is by going to a privately funded (but very well funded) fucking Catholic School.

Of course, most Catholic Schools in the province kick you out if they find out that you're gay, and won't enroll you if you're not either:

A) White

or

B) Asian and female

It's no coincidence that this legislation is being shoved onto the table as Alberta is coming up on a real demographical shift, either. The conservatives are as aware as anyone that their precious home base is, with gathering speed, becoming more and more populated with younger voters. They're also aware that they won't get those votes unless they can completely destroy said young people's ability to think for themselves.

I don't live in Canada, but I've conversed with several of them within a variety of Forums. ALMOST universally, I've found them to be not unlike our own "religious-right", and despite having socialized medicince, I've also found their political views to be not unlike most of the morons to their south. Again... I said... ALMOST universally, and I'm speaking only from my own limitted experience with some Canadians, or some persons whom claim to be Canadians.

Either way, given their foriegn policy, they're as dumb as the American Bushites, and that's a fact.

Either way, given their foreign policy, they're as dumb as the American Bushites, and that's a fact.

Guess it really depends on your views, since our foreign policies are different than the states in many aspects, as well many Canadians are far more liberal than our cousins to the south. Politically speaking for the most part you cannot get elected touting religious views. Most Canadians prefer that the government stay out of religion altogether and religion out of politics, and many politicians (with a few exceptions) have failed when running on religious platforms.

We are also a country that allows same sex marriages, with the majority of the population behind that, as it stand now it's about 71% of the Canadian population stands behind it, and when the catholic church back in 2003, did criticize the government for it's intention of legalizing same sex marriage, there was a massive backlash against the church, which kept quiet until summer of 2004 when (shocking) two bishops from Alberta wrote a letter, Bishop Frederick Hendry wrote in a pastoral letter urged Catholics to fight against the legalization of same-sex marriage, calling homosexual behaviour "an evil act." and Bishop Henry's letter also seemed to urge the outlawing of homosexual acts, saying "Since homosexuality, adultery, prostitution and pornography undermine the foundations of the family, the basis of society, then the State must use its coercive power to proscribe or curtail them in the interests of the common good.". Soon after 2 human rights complaints where filed, I know one was dismissed, not sure about the other.

As for the foreign polices, we are different, ours isn't so much based on military strength, our provinces have freedoms to deal with other countries directly, and when we do negotiate with other countries a representative of each Provence and territory tends to go (we call it Team Canada trade missions). For the most part our dealing with the US we have similar policies in regards to each other, but how we enforce or how we deal with other countries is completely different than that of the US, as well Canada does deal with Cuba where the US does not. So please do not confuse the two.

So we may join in sanctioned wars with the US such as afghanistan and the first Gulf war, but we have never joined the US in any non UN sanctioned wars, such as Vietnam and the Iraq war. So please do tell how our foreign polices are so alike again?

In fairness, yeah, I must stick-up for Dead_Again here. Texas tends to get worse than it's owed. Plenty of great people & great minds have grown up / are growing up in Texas, and institutionally, Texas has some terrific technical institutes (The University of Texas comes to mind).

If ya want to get technical there have been great people from Mississipi, Louisiana and Alabama as well as Kansas, but come on which one is more in the news currently for it's education system? Texas is, it's nothing personal it's just a comparision of current changes to the education system.

HELL fuckin' yea!

This isn't my home state (California- which, collectively, REALLY pissed me off with Prop Eight) but, yea, that bullshit 'weighing both sides of the issue' back-door method has made me REALLY sure I don't want to raise my daughter here (her and her mother are in Brazil... don't ask, srsly). Wherever I end up, I don't want to end up here. Austin's pretty cool, but it's IN TEXAS.

Louisiana is far worse than Texas, though. Like to the point that people *from* Louisiana breathe a little sigh of relief when they come one state to the west. East Texas is shitty, but Louisiana? Fuck, that place is to'up!

I'm not from Texas, so there's nothing for me to take personally.  I just used to be jealous of some of the Texan bands at competitions.

"May join". No did and are joining us.

"Scanctioned wars" throughout GWB's term?

You're a loyal defender of "democracy". Blind to what a sanctioned war means.

And defender of GWB's policies of colonialism, imperialism, and the spread of American military involvement everyplace that deserves a "good" guy/gal running it.

Good for you. Join up, and have a great fucking time.

You defend nothing by doing fighting there except the bullshit fed to you by GWB, and now by Obama and the Demonrats. You are clearly blind as to what the rest of the world thinks of our idiotic wars, our idiotic leaders, our idiotic political system, and our idiotic methods. Under BOTH GWB and Obama.

I'm not going to give you a course in foreign policy, and I did not even mention anything relating to a war conducted 50 to 60 years ago. I spoke in present tense, and from that it was obvious I was not speaking of America's "War of 1812", either.

What war are you talking about that Canada joined? Afghanistan is a sanctioned war by the UN, could you please show me otherwise? Could you please show me that Canada is in Iraq war? Because at this point your talking out of your ass. I am not a defender of democracy, I am a defender of my country and on the continent I live in, which happens to be north america. With that said when innocent Canadians and Americans are killed on North American soil, and a nation hides the leader of the attack and vows to defend him from being taken by those that they attacked, then they are now valid targets for war. This is a reason why Canada never entered the war in Iraq, because Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks of 9/11.

As for defender of GWB's policies again please do show me how we have done so, when Canadian officials have critized GWB's methods, everything from entering in an unsactioned war in Iraq, to guantamo bay prisoner treaments and methods of torture? Please I am waiting to see this one, because at this point really, your really talking nothing but bullshit.

We were presented with an opportunity to get rid of Texas and for some reason didn't do it. If I were in congress I'd start a bill to forcibly remove Texas from the union.

Edit: I'd also start a bill to build a wall between us, so as to keep unwanted Texans out of our country. That'll create jobs!
