i can honestly say... i dont think i ever truely comprehended how undeniably gay star-trek is until this very moment...
What Would Kharn Do?
It looks incredibly clunky to play from that video.
MMOs need to be smooth.
i predict it will be as good as duke nukem forever... if it ever comes out
That was cancelled...

All animals are equal.
I always thought that start trek looked silly and this trailer has done nothing but to reinforce this opinion. I'm sorry star trek but anything that isn't space or spaceship looks silly.
I agree that the on foot scenes do, but the starship scenes looked alright to me for this early in development (honestly, the on foot component is what most worries me. Nobody has managed to pull that off yet in a game; if Cryptic does, it'll be a first).

Cryptic would be wise to shy away from excessive combat in a star-trek mmo...
More exploration and adventure
edit for historical accuracy... and Sex with greenskinned slave girls!
Less... 1500 klingon warbird kills until my next level! 100 more Melee kills until i get my batleth trophy! or some shit -_-
But in the end, this is why it will fail... Star-trek isnt about combat, you have disruptor weapons that atomize humans, yet do nothing but leave a singe mark on the barrel they hide behind gimme some barrel armor Mk3. and i shall be invincible! (granted, Star trek does have better naval combat then most franchises)
What Would Kharn Do?
You're right about Star Trek not being about combat, but there could be some and it wouldn't necessarily suck. If they make ground combat like a shooter (maybe with a few adventure game-esqe elements) it could be entertaining enough. If it's like the shows and movies, though, where 90% of the weapons are shrimpy little remote control look-alike sidearms, it'll probably suck.
Good point about the barrels, btw. XD
A challenger arises.
Bioshock II (release date: Nov. 3)
Watch in high quality, plox.
Well, as it stands, DNF is more or less finally dead. Just about a month ago, Apogee fired the whole programming team and they are in a stinking court battle with Take Two over the rights to the game.
Take Two is claiming that they paid 20 million USD for the right to publish the game when/if it is ever finished. Apogee claims that they only ever got 2.5 million USD from Take Two. Take Two has filed an injunction to prevent Apogee from wiping the hard drives that the game is supposedly on.
If the judge in the case has a lick of brain power, he will let Apogee wipe the drives and end the saga, just like George Lucas should have done right after the original release of episode 6.

True... but could you imagine what would happen if Take 2 got their hands on it, and told Rockstar to get to work?
What Would Kharn Do?
Yah, Rockstar has potential for this. DNF meets “hot coffee” would be about cool enough.
Even so, from what I gather, “did not finish” has been seen by the gaming press and it appears to be a workable game. That and they most recently were using the unreal3 engine. So what we have been waiting for was only level design.
So if the game is really dead, then Apogee really ought to open source the CAD models. Seriously, let the whole internet loose with the source engine and you will see massively pervy levels made. I could see possibly doing every perv meme (mrhands.mpg, goatse, 2girls1cup, tubgirl just to name a few) as easter eggs.
