Reading material for the Bored
For those who are bored, and want some reading material... i've got a doozy for ya.
Its taken me the better part of a month (of casual reading)... but i finally finished reading Berserk in its entirety (err... up to date, at least), and i just have to recommend it.
Ah ah... i know... "Doomy reads things? o_O"
obvious question...
But a better one would be... "WTF kind of reading material could possibly entertain Doomy enough to make him openly recommend it?! ... and is it legal?"
Well, read it and find out... and its legal in 58 countries *cough* give or take.
Right, so on with trying to sell you the story. Fuck... where to start, on a continuing story thats been in production for... 14 years now?
Darkest story of love, pain, and betrayal ever told? Excessive violence? Gratuitous boobage (enough to satisfy Hamby... and then some!), Touchest on almost any taboo topic you can think of, and doesnt pull any punches while doing so... OH! and it has pictures!... hmm, i dont think this is clicking for those snobby uppity clods in the crowd...
Lets try it another way...
Berserk is Doomy's version of all of Shakespeares work
Berserk is Doomy's War of the Roses
Berserk is Doomy's Bible (only it actually makes sense, doesnt contradict itself, and has REAL morality)
I highly suggest starting at Volume 3; Page 169
http://view.thespectrum.net/series/berserk-volume-03.html?ch=Volume%2003&pg=berserk_v03_169.jpg
The author did one of those time jump things to start in the middle of some dramatic event that you wouldnt understand until... Volume 17 or so... so for the sake of entertainment, bypass everything till Volume3 pg 169
Whole series; http://www.thespectrum.net/manga_scans/berserk/
Enjoy
Conversely, i now need something else to read... any suggestions?
(No learning material please... i have a big enough selection already)
Heh... i would so fail as a Salesman... >.<

What Would Kharn Do?
Ah, have you ever watched/read the anime/manga Elfen Lied? You'll probably like that............hehe.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare
I have, and after the first 5 or so minutes, its just a complete snooze fest... (but those first 5 minutes was enough to make me suffer through the whole series -_- )
What Would Kharn Do?
Might as well make use of the double post...
Now, Elfen leid was nothing more then 5 minutes of senseless, gratuitous violence (which i can appreciate) and 24ish episodes of a japanese teenager love story. Sure... and entire platoon of heavily armed guards was ripped limb from limb by the mind of a psyonic 16year old, and peices of their bodies was tossed all over the place before she escaped her prison... after that, its just an amnesiac love story with some blood spray.
Berserk... well...
Japanese TV is notoriously lax in any rules and regulations. You want a synopsis of the last Berserk episode that was ALLOWED to be aired?
*spoiler*
After the main character :Gutts (Gatsu, Gatts... yay translations) rescues his life long friend Griffith from the depths of a castle dungeon, in which he was being held and tortured for a year before hand. All of which you witnessed at some point in the series, Griffith, skinned alive, tongue ripped out, tendons cut, bones shattered, branded and burn flesh... nothing but a shell of a man left. Hes finally rescued from the depths and Gutts and co. escape (aka slaughter) the castle guard and flee the scene. Sparing the who, hows, and why (far to long to explain)... Griffith, the man Gutts fought for, bled for, killed for, devoted his entire life to... sells his body and soul to hell, and the bodies and souls of everyone he ever knew, including the love of Gutts life, in return for a new body.
The demons of hell tear into this band of mercenaries, shredding, devouring, and displaying the gruesome remanents everywhere, while Gutts fends for his life. At some point Casca (Gutts'es women) is taken hostage by the new demon Griffith, and Gutts arm is pinned in a demons mouth, held down, forced to watch as Griffith rapes Casca before his very eyes. Once his bestfriend is now his tormenter in hell, Gutts is beyond a rage at this point, and begins to hack away at his demon captor with his free swordarm... to no avail. Gutts actually shatters the blade on the demons mouth, and is left with nothing but a broken hilt... Which after a moment of desperate horror, he decides to hack away at his OWN ARM in a last ditch effort to free himself and attack Griffith. Lacerated from head to toe, and with an eviserated arm, Gutts charges at Griffith in hopes of killing him before he bleeds to death, but is tackled to the ground by demons (which subsequently puncture one of Gutts'es eyes). Screen fades to blood red as Gutts lets out a tear and a murderous roar.
*spoiler end*
THATS the last episode they were allowed to make and show on Japanese television (Volume 13! of a 33+ story). Fucking cliff hanger or what? Just when the story was getting interesting... Leid has NOTHING on Berserk... Violence + a Story? unheard of!

I'm not sure what you're interested in, but you might try one of these four.

My favorite violence + story anime is without a doubt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JoJo%27s_Bizarre_Adventure.
Apparently there's a whole lot of manga behind it, but I only saw the first 6 episode OVA, which blew me away.
I never much liked the complete excessive violence with no point, a la Bastard!!, but JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was a thoroughly enjoyable mind twister that is still memorable more than 10 years later.

Gantz thoroughly confuses the hell out of me something about it just doesnt want to register inside my brain
What Would Kharn Do?
It is showing how people will react when you remove the social contract entirely, and then take their future from them leaving them living in the present with the only hope of a way out being to do what they are told.
Theism is why we can't have nice things.
Plausable reason why it will continue to make no sense to me, indeed...
