Human Sperm Created from Stem Cells

Researchers led by Professor Karim Nayernia at Newcastle University and the NorthEast England Stem Cell Institute (NESCI) have developed a new technique which has made the creation of human sperm possible in the laboratory. The work is published today (8th July 2009) in the academic journal Stem Cells and Development.
I'm a little distressed that this is mainly about studying human infertility... there are plenty of fertile humans... but it's still damn interesting.

Very interesting. I'm hoping to get a copy of the paper tomorrow. I won't understand all the biology involved but I'm hoping to get an overall understanding of the processes they're using.
Yeah, the fertility is an issue. There does seem to be a school of thought that says "everyone must be able to breed". To quote the late, great, Bill Hicks - Can ya'll stop rutting for just a second until we figure out this food-air deal?!?

When they engineer humans to conduct photosynthesis let me know.
Men are getting less and less needed
Indeed... take heed brothers! our end is slowly approaching!
(even though it will be men who "screw themselves" out of any need for women first, do to sexbots)

Along the line of Cappy's post, I was also going to comment that hypothetically speaking, your mother could also be your father.
I've not read the article, however, I assume they've actually tried this technique of making sperm, with less complex mammals, e.g. rats, and observed the results of using the goo.
Somehow, I doubt we'll ever hear of the results of such experiments, as long as there's a Pope.
