Yah Ken,
In case you were not aware, there is no such thing as a permanent victory. Whatever gains that you make will melt away given the passage of sufficient time. Just ask the British where their empire is if you don't believe me. Speaking of which, the brit's tried to take on Afghanistan and had their collective asses handed to them. Twice.

For the most part you are right, but there are at least two ways to achieve total victory in any conflict:
1: Assimilation. Not attempting it, but attaining it. If enemy has become you, then victory.
2: Annihlation. If enemy doesn't exist, then victory.
But 1: costs immensely (more than war; lots lots more), and 2: is unacceptable to most sane individuals.
Enlightened Atheist, Gaming God.
O' I'm very much aware that there is no such thing as an absolutely permanent victory, but I thought that the video was real good, people need to see something like that on the evening news (but the propaganda model that the U.S. follows won't allow it).And they also need to be told that although Guantanamo is being closed down, the Bagram base that we are operating in Afghanistan ipsnews.net/news.asp could become our next place to torture suspects. I tried the link and it seems to be broken, here's another one that has basically the same story salon.com/opinion/feature/2009/03/09/bagram/
