The Rational Response Squad is a group of atheist activists who impact society by changing the way we view god belief. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.

No animal shall sleep in a bed.
No animal shall drink alcohol.
No animal shall kill any other animal.
All animals are equal.
I have always thought that SETI was a complete waste of Human Intelligence, and the space program a waste of tax payer's money. With so many crisis here on Earth to solve, like Global Warming,Starvation,War,and the collapse of the economy,Nuclear proliferation,Desertification, Over Population,Pollution, and many other situation's that could use the resources that we pour into Space. I mean-so what if there's life on another planet, how will that solve anything. We just better hope that if there is we can't be reached by them, they might take over our planet and kill all of us !!!
Signature ? How ?
Obviously Canadians.

That logic could apply to many things: reading fiction, watching movies, playing video games, and so on. I mean, we should be solving all the other problems you mentioned rather than wasting time and billions of dollars of resources (far more than we put into non-commercial space projects) on these passtimes.
Investment is space exploration has given us great insight not only into the workings of reality, but also practical things that benefit your life every day. Satellite communications, GPS, computers, and dehydrated ice cream have all benefited from the money we've spent on space exploration.
The environment (especially global warming) benefits from our study of other planets, as it helps us model our own world better. (As one example.)
Not that we put that much money into space exploration. It's really a small percent of the total budget, and is dwarfed by military spending, which benefits us even less.
Of course, standard disclaimers apply: this is my opinion. I could be wrong.
"Yes, I seriously believe that consciousness is a product of a natural process. I find that the neuroscientists, psychologists, and philosophers who proceed from that premise are the ones who are actually making useful contributions to our understanding of the mind." - PZ Myers
Awesome vid.
To add to Nigel's response, space is our future, if we have a future. Even technology won't keep the Earth habitable forever. And you never know when the next big rock heads our way. Space exploration is vital to our survival. Contrary to too much, we don't spend nearly enough on it.
