 That.

 That.  Was.

AMAZING!

Thanks for posting that lol.  I even got my good friend to say "fuck religion" even though he goes to a non-denominational church every Sunday.

I never thought there were corners in my mind until I was told to stand in one.

I have learned so much, thanks for keeping it real RRS.

I was just thinking about posting a thread like that!  Seriously!

We could even call it a "holiday" if we wanted to.  I don't know if any employers would let us off work though lol.

"My nonbelief in a deity demands that I observe this as a day of celebration!"

But it would be awesome.  And folks could call it Science Day if we wanted to appease the PC Police.

Who would oppose Science Day?  (Bleh don't answer that I'm not in the mood.)

I never thought there were corners in my mind until I was told to stand in one.

here here!!!

My wife and her large family celebrate christmas in a big way every  year. My two daughters and their mothers family celebrate christmas big time every year { wife of 22 years;  daughters are age 30 & 28} for those who know me the catch is , the ones who bother with religion are devout Hindus. As far as I am concerned the christians are loosing their grip on the holiday because non-christians are takeing over all the fun without any religious involvment.

Commercial retailers (including christian ones) give us the terms, "happy Holidays" and "seasons greetings". I go to Canadian Tire or Home Depot to buy "decrative Lights" or "Seasonal Decorations".   Atheist have nothing to do with any of this de-christianization, economics is driving out the religion. Go to a christian book store, They're open on SUNDAYS! no less and all the religious trinkets are made in CHINA!! no less. The reason for this blatent hypocracy is economics.

Pray to god but buy in China, for better profits,  and violate the 4th commandment while your at it, not to mention the 10th commandment for good measure.

I'll be in Guyana again this year where my wife and her six sisters hold a charity function for needy children in their old neighborhood, to help them decide who is really needy in the area they coordinate with the local Pandit and Imam, not meny christians around the area.

I get to play Santa Claus for about 100 children, I'd be surprised if more then a dozen where christians. I also get to do the Santa shtick at a hospital where my adopted daughter is an RN/Midwife. Useually there is only 2 or 3 kids stuck there for the holiday so its a short shtick.

If you want a tough job for the season, try dressing up as Santa in 85 degree heat and have a hundred plus kids climb on you like your a set of monkey bars, Oiy!  If anyone is interested I could get my sister-in-law to post some of the photos, call it Christmas without religion.

"Very funny Scotty; now beam down our clothes."

Greetings

Jeffrick, since you mentioned Hindus, how do you respond that some Hindus believe Jesus was an avatar?  It is not the most mainstream belief, but consider that Hinduism varies a lot.  Hinduism is a fairly encompassing religion imo, and often Hindus have a deep respect for other forms of belief that they BASE in their religious teachings more so than other religions do.  (Many believe that other religions are "also correct".)

Also consider that many people who claim to be Christian do not focus on Christmas as a celebratory day of their religion.  My parents are both theists but there was never much mention about Jesus or God on Christmas, though it was mentioned directly as well as indirectly with wanting to observe how fortunate our family was/is.

This said, I hear you on the part of it being a consumer holiday.  I don't know what else to add but I was just curious about how you would respond to my question and statements.  I just don't see much of a reason to despise the economics and celebration by non-Christians considering it's a national holiday.  If Christians want to encourage worship on Christmas they could start a movement for it.  It would be much better than the imaginary "War on Christmas" movement.

I respect what you had to say even if it appears I am being argumentative.  I'm happy you expressed your opinions.

Also, Merry Christmas.  Eye-wink  I'm glad you're volunteering to help the needy, much respect sir.

I suppose that this isn't

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

  It's official!  I'll be

It's official!  I'll be hosting a ChristMyAss day party in the webcam room with Shaunphilly.

http://www.rationalresponders.com/rrs_webcam_room

We plan to be on from about 3-6pm est. It'll go something like this...

1pm-3pm atheist friendly holiday music and general chat

3pm-6pm holiday chat with Shaun and I.  Turn your webcam on and party with us.

Somewhere between 5 est and 6 est we'll order Chinese food and Sushi, and we'd love it if you had your holiday meal with us!

After 6 pm we'll wind down, open a few beers and hang out a little longer.

From 3-6 pm est in the general chat portion of the broadcast we'll cover the origins of Christmas, the purpose of Christmas, the tree of knowledge, and offer you an outlet for anything you want to get off your chest on Christmas day as a non-believer.  Of course Christians are welcome to show up and we'll offer a friendly public service announcement reminding them that their God doesn't exist.

Merry ChristMyAss because Christmas is just two letters away!
