Hi from the UK

OK - go gentle with me - I'm sorta new to this forum stuff.

Lifelong atheist (well, from about the age of 5 or 6 - made my dad SO proud) and possibly a third generation one at that, although I never knew my grandad. Have produced 3 more 4th generation atheists/ rationalists (which makes me very proud of my kids that they grew up with BS detectors working at full gain).

In my fifth decade now, and trying to get round to do something active to help promote rationalism and independant thought in the world. Call it enlightened self-interest and an indirect way to look after my genetic heritage. Reduce the amount of dogma in the world = reduction in conflict - right?

greetings to all from the UK.

Andrew

Welcome

I don't feel like I've been around long enough to be an official part of the welcoming committee, but Welcome!

We need all the recruits we're able to get in this war against intelligence.

I'm in the same boat, but I'm actually in a war against UN-intelligence...

But Welcome to the Forum.

I actually meant that we're fighting in a war being waged against intelligence by the unintelligent, since we aren't the ones who initiated the conflict.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, | As I foretold you, were all spirits, and | Are melted into air, into thin air; | And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, | The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, | The solemn temples, the great globe itself, - Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, | And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, | Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff | As dreams are made on, and our little life | Is rounded with a sleep. - Shakespeare

Hi Dinothor

Did you say anything to keep your kids on the narrow winding path to truth or did they just continue on in a state of born godlessness?

Welcome to the fun!

Welcome

Hi Andrew,

I would also like to thank you for breeding good stock as I too, have chosen not to.  And like you, I'm 3rd generation Atheist...I think my brother's children just might be 4th.  They live in Los Angeles.  Two of them are twin 22 yr. old brilliant and beautiful girls.  If you have sons...hint hint...LOL!!  And I too, just entered my fifth decade!!!

I think that that the U.K. is much more tolerant of Atheists than the U.S.  But I live in NYC, so I'm very lucky as well.

Cheers and welcome from another newbie!!
