Rough.
I was driving on the highway today on the last stretch of a long road trip. My water bottle spilled all over the place and I reached over to grab it as quickly as I could. When I looked up I was heading straight for the guardrail. I slammed into it spun around and hit it again. Thankfully the other drivers on the road were a little more aware than I was and managed to swerve around my car which was in the middle lane facing the wrong way. As I was spinning out of control I really wasn't thinking about my family, and my life didn't flash before my eyes-- I was thinking about how if I lived my insurance was going to go through the roof. Luckily the cop who showed up was a great guy and didn't report it to the insurance company. I just got home now, and after listening to my father talk for an hour about how God must want me alive and I how should thank him for keeping me safe I would just like to officially blaspheme the Holy Spirit. I realized that if I died I would have never said that, and that scared me far more than anything else. I don't really even know if this is relevant to anyone in the least bit or if it makes any sense but I don't care.. I just wanted to convey it to some sort of audience.
By the way I'm fine, I just have some cuts and bruises. My 98 Camry is another story.

New Atheist meme:
When Atheist are faced with death they ask "How will I afford to pay for the damage if I survive?"
When I have been faced with a life-threatening situation, either immediate (car crash) or slightly more drawn out, like the prospect of being lost at sea, I can honestly say there was no thought of God, just things that could be broadly summarized as "Oh shit!".

Never; ever, underestimate the power of LUCK. You were lucky this day. On a bad day we would be sending our condolences. I know a lot about luck THIS DAY. My Patriots just lost to something called the Ravens and trust me on this ; it was all based on LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, if I ever get in that situation, my hope is to think about what a waste of good pussy Carrie Underwood is.

I have been in deadly situations a few times and I never thought about being dead, god or my family, I just thought of ways to get the fuck out of those situations (which usually involved shooting back, getting into a humvee or a jeep and getting the fuck out of there if necessary) or like bob said "OH SHIT" or "AWWW FUCK THIS SHIT". As for accidents as luck would have it never anything serious and never while I have been driving oddly enough.
As for the pats there jefferick it wasn't luck they just sucked today and the ravens where just that much better. It happens every once in a while.
as I spun out on an icy rural road, bounced around and managed to tag all four corners and reduce the height of the car by about 1/3 (good thing I'm short), was "shit, this is really going to hurt!" And it did hurt the next day - I only had a couple of bruises and a small cut, but I hurt.
I figured out that the reason old people are vastly more careful than our younger counterparts is that we all know how long it will hurt. Hurting for a day or so ain't too bad - hurting for 20 or 30 years or more from some dumb ass thing we pulled as a youngster is beyond the pits.

To further illustrate Jeffricks point, did you know that Seth Macfarlane (creator of Family Guy) missed his plane on 9-11 that would've cost him his life?
Here's what he said afterwards...
"I'm not a fatalist. I'm not a religious person. I'm sure there are close calls that we're not even aware of hundreds of times a year" Seth Macfarlane Talking about his experience with missing his flight on September 11th which was one that hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
"I'm still a man of science, not God." - to Playboy, also about his experience on September 11th.

Yeah man you're telling me. It's been a few days now and I still can't get the whole thing out of my head. I have this strong guilty feeling even though I didn't hurt myself or anyone else. Definitely a wake up call.
