I fear you may have a point
Wow... when I was younger I broke my Virtual Boy while I was playing Mario tennis out of frustration. In retrospect, probably a good thing. Subjecting your eyes to borderline infrared light for 2 hours straight probably isn't a good thing.
And some electromagnetic spectrum explanation about how it couldn't possibly be infrared need not apply... it was a joke.
