Graphic Artists Recreate Face of Jesus

AMERICAN computer graphic artists using cutting edge technology have recreated the face of Jesus based on the Shroud of Turin.

It took a team from Studio MacBeth six months to create the image using the fabric many believe to be Jesus’ burial cloth, as the blueprint, The Christian Post reported.

“If you want to recreate the face of Jesus and you want to get the actual face of Jesus, you have only one object and that’s the Shroud,” said computer artist Ray Downing.

“It is the only object that can actually purport to be the actual image of Jesus with any kind of credibility whatsoever.”

But the Shroud of Turin is not without controversy. Though many believe it is the cloth used to wrap the body of Jesus after his death, others assert that the shroud is from the medieval period and is not the precious relic that some claim.

The image will be revealed in a History Channel special titled The Real Face of Jesus? tomorrow.

However viewers are warned the results may not resemble the more popular images of Jesus, ABC News reported.

Mr Downing said an important factor in recreating the face was to consider that the shroud's cloth wrapped the body and the face. Computer artists needed to take into account this distortion when recreating the face.

"By imitating those distortions we could take the image and put it back into that shape and figure out what the face looked like … it gave us a blueprint," he told The Christian Post.

He admits recreating areas such as eyebrows and skin texture were most difficult.

“At some point, you have to leave the realm of actual information and use experience,” he said.

“I have a lot of information about that face and my estimation is we’re pretty darn close to what this man looked like,” Mr Downing said.

Catholic priest and author Father Jonathan Morris said: "There's a long tradition in Christian theology and Christian history of seeking the face of Christ - of wanting to know what he was like as a man."

I saw the article, didn't

I saw the article, didn't bother to read it.  It is the face of some schmuck from the 13th-14th century.

 as if the goddamn

as if the goddamn "educational" cable networks couldn't sink any lower...

remember the good ol' days, about 12 years ago, when the history channel was nothing but wwii documentaries?

"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

Fancy spending 6 precious months

of your life recreating the face of jesus from a cheesecloth that was probably pressed into the blackened remains of some priest's big breakfast at le cafe de petit tarte.

Compare this shit to CERN. God people are truly weird.

Yes!  How the hell are "Ice Road Truckers" and "Ax Men" actually related to history?

So these idiot computer

So these idiot computer geeks who are nothing but fans of Jesus used a mythical forgery are going to tell us what he looked like?

Whomever they modeled the forgery on originally back when it was made, would have been reflective of the populous of the time.

The Shroud is merely one of many fakes made by the people of all cultures in antiquity as a marketing ploy.

I could give a shit less what image they come up with, it takes two sets of DNA to manifest into a zygote and human flesh does not survive rigor mortis.

The Shroud is nothing but an ancient version of saying "Pro Wrestling is real". It was nothing but ploy to convince people that their super hero existed. Much like idiots today believe that Pro Wrestling is a sport.

Marketing does not amount to truth, it only means you can sell bullshit to people.

I watched it.

The thing that truly bothered me about the program was the repeated insistence and repetition that science could not duplicate or explain how the image was formed.  In the middle of the program they briefly mention that an Italian chemist was able to produce a similar image and yet the show kept repeating the same sound bite that the shroud could not be duplicated or explained by science.   They also threw in bits about the Knights Templar and the gnostic christians to make this "discovery" it sound like it was a Dan Brown novel.

In 1389 There also was a bishop that declared the shroud to be a painted forgery and that he had a confession from the artist who made it.  At the end of the 2-hour ordeal, they had a collar-wearing priest state that he believes the shroud to be real.

The Shroud of Turin is as fake as it ever was.

Remember how you figured out there is no Santa? Well, their god is just like Santa. They just haven’t figured out he’s not real yet.

 i know this has been

i know this has been referenced before on another thread, but i can't resist.  it's just too applicable here:

the onion is quite possibly the last tenuous link to my faith in humanity.

iwb. I read somewhere the onion gets more hits than the New York Times. There are some humans left. And this is classic onion droll.
