Concerns with ads on this site
I'm a bit disturbed and concerned about some of the advertisements I see on here. More often than not I've seen websites that lead directly to a Christian site. Maybe I'm paranoid, maybe I'm prudent but: could THIS be a Christian website? It wouldn't surprise me if this was part of a big plot to try to convince freethinkers to go to the dark side. ack!

this issue is frequently raised. the ads are put there by google automatically and they coincide with the words used on the site.
or something like that...
"I have never felt comfortable around people who talk about their feelings for Jesus, or any other deity for that matter, because they are usually none too bright. . . . Or maybe 'stupid' is a better way of saying it; but I have never seen much point in getting heavy with either stupid people or Jesus freaks, just as long as they don't bother me. In a world as weird and cruel as this one we have made for ourselves, I figure anybody who can find peace and personal happiness without ripping off somebody else deserves to be left alone. They will not inherit the earth, but then neither will I. . . . And I have learned to live, as it were, with the idea that I will never find peace and happiness, either. But as long as I know there's a pretty good chance I can get my hands on either one of them every once in a while, I do the best I can between high spots."

Welcome to the forum. You caught us. Yeah, we are disguised religious fanatics who constantly berate religions in the hope of converting atheists to the idiocracy of religion.
April Fool.
Actually, the ads are driven by Google Ads which sees religious content and places ads that seem appropriate to Google Ads. The site owners have blocked many of the worst offending religious ads but they can only block so many.

Ya, what the others say.
It was a bit shocking the first time I saw them too, but alas, they help keep the site up and going

Google ads.
(Edit: That's what I get for not reading responses)
Everything makes more sense now that I've stopped believing.
Use Firefox and install Ad-Blocker Plus. I don't see the ads and I don't care about them. I got really tired of the ads for the cellulite and fat pills. Ugly women turning beautiful by the magic of graphic arts just makes me disgusted. This way, I don't have to view the religious ads here, either.

CJ--you are awesome! I actually use Firefox so it took me a second to upload that nifty little add-on. I am consoled. Also, I love your quotes. Can't put it any better than that.
It is a bit ironic that Google Ads would do that. And a bit scary. Understandable though, considering their method.
You're welcome. Actually, the ABP tip was given to me by someone else on this forum, though I can't remember who so I can't properly attribute them. If it is important to them, I'm sure they will chime in and remind me -- forcefully.
I run No Script, Trend Micro, and Spybot resident. Trend Micro isn't free, but the others are. I also don't have a email profile at all on my computer, all my email is online only. Safe computing!
