Kids for Christ
Tomorrow my daughter goes to a new school. Today we went there to meet the gang of teachers etc.
To my surprise, inside the school I found an enrollment boot of Kids-for-Christ program which is basically a bible study program that sneaked somehow into our elementary school. Perhaps, they can technically be allowed to be there because of their constitutional rights. But hey, why not an "atheist camp", or "karate for kids", or any other program?
Some kids can't be artists, but they can be great athletes; some kids can't make a single push-up, but they can be very good in math. BUT ANY kid can be indoctrinated in religion. So the kids who are not helped by their parents to learn about how great a god is and blah-blah-blah, are really left out of the crowd.
.... it looks to me I f...ed up my family.... should stay in Europe.
Oder? Any idea how an atheist kid can survive a public school full of religious zombies?

P.S.: Actually "Kids for Christ" sounds for me precisely as "sacrifice your kid to Christ". Never hear of "kids for evolution" or "kids for Richard". It must be a monster if he wants our kids.
Well, you can try making a stink about the matter. However, after having googled what I could, that may not actually work.
From what I can tell, there seem to be several KFC groups which are organized under different denominations. That opens the possibility of a loop hole.
Basically, a school official cannot give sanction to one specific denomination. So asking reverend billy bob to pray at the beginning of a school football game is right out. It makes it look like reverend billy bob and his specific church are the official religion of the school.
However, if a group was to set up a card table on school grounds and never actually seek out people but just let them wander over as they see fit, the administrator who is letting that shit go on could say that they asked nicely and they are abiding by the rules. Of course he would be willing to let other denominations do the same and too bad that no other denomination has ever asked to do so.
Another possibility is that this group is multiple denominations under one umbrella. In that case, they may be claiming that they are an ecumenical association and therefore nobody is saying that one of the groups is specifically the official one.
One web site said that they were dedicated to ending the myth that religion has been banned from schools. Which is slightly true. No court has ever said that kids are forbidden to, say, pray to pass a test.
At this point, I would suggest that you do a search for relevant opinions of the federal courts. Start close to home and work your way out. I say that because if you can find a ruling in your appeals court district, the opinion of a higher court is binding on lower courts. A ruling from a parallel court is only and advisory opinion, although if you can find several rulings from different parallel courts, that can be a persuasive argument should no nearby higher court have issued an opinion that you find to be useful.

Constitutionally the Supreme Court has made it clear that student run religious organizations can't be denied use of school property if secular clubs are allowed to use it. It would be interesting if an outright atheist student group was founded to see how the local religious groups would react.
I was an atheist surrounded by Mormons where I went to school and wasn't very quiet about my beliefs. Some kids were banned by their parents from talking to me, some screamed that I was going to burn in hell and others became good friends (after staring at me like I was an alien). Learning to deal with belligerent, brainwashed bible thumpers is good character building. You have to deal with them in real life, so you might as well practice. Of course, being quiet and blending in might be easier but I was never good at keeping my mouth shut.
If, if a white man puts his arm around me voluntarily, that's brotherhood. But if you - if you hold a gun on him and make him embrace me and pretend to be friendly or brotherly toward me, then that's not brotherhood, that's hypocrisy.- Malcolm X
Christian recruiters are in the NYC subways, and suburban malls too, handing out il-litterature tryi9ng to guilt people out of their thoughts...
They are in a race with Islam to see who will have the greater numbers when the holy war starts..

Yah Rich. But the NYC subways also have black dudes dressed like Klansmen screaming at the top of their lungs about how any day now, Jesus is gonna come back to wipe out the whole white race.

HA! AIG... Very true... That and More....I wrote a piece a while back called "The Tunnel of Hate" about how in the underground passage between Times Square & the Port Authority you get bombarded with every religious fanatisism you can think of, and probably a few others... its both annoying and hilarious...

This just made me think about that girl from missisippi who was banned from her prom because she wanted to take her girlfriend. A lot of things as far as the school systems in the US are so screwed up. A lot of laws are overlooked regardless but you can sue anybody for anything here too. My mom used to work as a district court clerk and this guy sued his next door neighbor for 25 cents he had lended to him some years before and he won lol. The girl with the prom issue did win $35,000 when she sued them for it though.
What's funny is the law got passed that they couldn't make children pray in school but they ( in some states ) suspend or expell children for discussing their their homosexual love life with other students. I understand they are there to learn but they do get break and recess. I don't know if you would get in trouble for it or not but I would be so tempted to make up little flyers on my computer titled....there is no god. Take them up to the school office and leave them right there on the counter.
If all the Christians who have called other Christians " not really a Christian " were to vanish, there'd be no Christians left.
