The way I usually embed

The way I usually embed videos is to get the Embed code from the original YouTube video, and then in the RRS post, I click on the Source button in the upper right button menu of the post editor, and paste the embed code in there at the appropriate spot. Then click Source again and you can go on to finish editing your post. It's not the easiest method, and (anybody know?) there might be an easier way to do it. But it works for me.

Just goes to show how

Just goes to show how impressionable little people are. She had the whole song and game down to an art. Possibly the next Joyce Myer.

no doubt rebecca!  i hate it because that kid probably doesn't stand a chance of growing up sane.

i should probably tell everyone that i absolutely think religion is dangerous and i'm not kidding when i say that.  and i am prejudiced because i think christianity is definitely one of the most harmful religions.  maybe it's because i've had horrible experiences with christians, i don't know.  i do realize that every christian is not the same but for the most part i've found them to be judgemental, completely irrational, deluded, and borderline psychotic.

Scary? This is funny as

Scary? This is funny as hell! Pause at 0:19, it looks like it's possessed by Satan! And if you look at 1:06, the woman on the left is breathing out a demon!

Anyway, I wouldn't make a mountain out of a molehill. I tend to agree with these comments on this:

"If there was a video of a baby dancing to let's say Beyonce (who is my favorite artist so don't try and use the argument against me) or some other artist, everyone would say "awwww she's cute",, not "awwww she's being brainwashed". But since it has to do with God, all of a sudden it's brainwashing? Let's grow up please!"

"I really doubt she's getting anything more out of it than enjoying the music, honestly. You can freak out about religion when the kid's old enough to understand what's being said."

"WOW! A video of a baby mimicking the actions of others. Imagine that!"

"My baby is like that too. He pretends to sacrifice his Barbie dolls to our dark lord Satan, whenever we hold dark mass. It's too cute."

Err...except the last one of course Eye-wink

Athene, I am a little

Athene, I am a little confused about you. You start by defending religion and tell us to grow up but then talk about worshiping satan. So atheist, satanic, or theist? Which one? Also I'm grown, thanks.

The only thing I'm implying is that you aparently like to argue and mock people for what they believe no matter what it is. Idgaf what you are.

You know I almost didn't resond to this because the best thing would be to ignore you. I wasn't the one looking for a fight (refer to post 6).

I suppose everyone is in your opinion while you remain completely inocent? I guess the others on this forum that you are currently having issues with, it's all their fault too. I don't have the patience nor the time to argue with you.this isn't even a debate. It's childish.

People here have different opinions about different subjects but just because they don't see it the way you do doesn't mean they are the one's who need to grow up. You could have been less childish and simlly stated what you thought about the vid qnd not resorted to telling people they need to grow up. Anyway, now I know for future use that you really aren't worth responding to.

@ Sapient, is there somewhere we can vote on giving somebody a troll badge?

These militant agnostics swarm around here like gnats- the whole 'everybody who believes anything does so on faith' bit gets old fast, and they act like they need to bring that up in every post as though we've never heard it before, no matter how irrelevant, just to rub our faces in their megalomaniacal superiorities.

Not speaking for Sapient, and I'm only a low-level mod, but in my opinion, a great way to test someone's status as a troll is to directly challenge them to put up or shut up, i.e. a debate, and see how they respond. If it's all run around, projection, and accusation, then it's a troll. If they actually try to make their case, less likely a full-blown troll, although later behaviour may reveal the presence of an incurable abscess of troll-puss which explodes under too much pressure (as seen recently with Bloody_Cross).

Well is there an agnostic

Well is there an agnostic badge? This way we know what we're dealing with. Maybe if I'd asked him if he was agnostic, we wouldn't have got this far but then I don't know. Honestly I didn't think about agnostic because I don't have to much of an understanding of the term. I just don't believe....period.

Edit: sorry devils for the hijacking of your thread I just don't appreciate being told to grow up because of my beliefs.

I didn't even expect anyone to take that remark of another user about "growing up" seriously. My focus was clearly on what he/she said before that. This could have been a funny thread, if not for people frantically looking for a fight. And looking for a fight is who acts like looking for a fight Eye-wink

What about an "I'm butthurt because I'm intellectually inferior but don't want anyone to successfully debate with that person for that would prove that others aren't as incapable as me"-badge? Oh wait, we don't need that, because these people desperately cry for attention anyway Laughing out loud

Seriously, how long are you planning to run after me? Not that it annoys me, on the contrary: I view it as a testimonial of yourself and of those who consider you rational, intelligent, well-behaved and relaxed. Only the most miserable minds cling to the community in that way and call for a strict labeling of "friends" and "foes". And I can't even view such oaths of diclosure as a useful piece of information, because I don't even care enough about such people to have an opinion of them. I just remember your name because you follow me around like a heart-broken teenager who hates me for turning him down and now tells everybody what a cruel evil person I am I really expected more maturity in this place.

Ok I'm fully prepared to apologize because now that I went back and read again after reading your previous post, I do see I misunderstood you. I'm actually on an iphone cuz I haven't gotten internet set up at my house that I just moved into.

I have vision problems and I do have glasses but I have to remove them to read on here. Makes the words even more jumbled because I'm near sited ( I think thats where you can't see far away) but they don't seem to help with reading.

So that being said I will say that I'm sorry for misunderstanding you because I didn't even realize until I look closer again that you were quoting someone else.

In that case, it does seem as though the quality of troll-ness has been fairly well demonstrated.

See where Bob actually took the time to engage him/her in these threads:

http://www.rationalresponders.com/forum/21224

http://www.rationalresponders.com/forum/27372

There is a trend- note that Bob spends time constructing sound replies, while this person ignores most of what he says, arrogantly asserting the same flawed reasoning repeatedly and without taking the time to understand the arguments, giving up on the argument after a few posts to go make the assertions in other threads rather than respond to an actual discussion on the matter.

I think an 'agnostic' badge would not be very informative or appropriate, since there are plenty of people who are technically agnostic atheists, in the sense that they aren't completely certain, who aren't hostile to logic and positive atheists.  A 'dialetheist' badge may be more appropriate, although a 'troll' badge would get the point across more easily.

It would be good for people to understand that they're arguing with somebody who dogmatically rejects logic, so they won't be able to have any kind of fruitful discussion with the person.

Though one should add that this was just a viral ad for the Band "Bastard Fairies" Eye-wink I remember they are also named in the end of the video, but strangely this video isn't possible to watch from Germany anymore for some reason (not copyright issues, as it seems), so I can't check.

but christ is obviously moving her to imitate them.    i would actually like to crash one of these services, maybe start screaming "oh no, there's a demon inside her mocking our faith!"   (makes just as much "sense" and is much more entertaining.)  unfortunately they'd probably roll her up in a carpet and kill her with a exorcism.  (it's happened before.  shrug.)

Christ isn't moving her to imitate them. A desire to do what her parents are doing is what is "moving" her to imitate them. The same way my son would get his toy tools and work on his tricycle when I would have my tools working on my truck.

Well, well...I already thought "Wow, finally I get only intelligent constructive answers. Guess after drawing a line, the trolls here have given up" - and then your posting pops up Eye-wink Now, what actually surprises me is that many of these postings are written by moderators. How come? Usually even the strongly biased ones are more interested in *easing* quarrels rather then *inciting* them. Or are you really convinced that you just made an important, creative or at least funny contribution towards the topic or the atmosphere of communication? Be honest. And no, you don't have to answer that question with *another* posting, rather ask yourself quietly. When you have found an answer to that, maybe your future answers to me will only consist of rational arguments. I'd appreciate that. After all, that's what the title of this website is somehow suggesting.

My impression so far is quite a contrary one: Several people at this site are obviously accustomed to the use of knock-down-arguments and mutual reassurance that anyone who doesn't see things like them must be uneducated or deluded. And when someone comes along the way who isn't impressed by this sect-like distortion of reality and rhetorical fallacies, but questions their irrational beliefs, then they react with frustration, anger and fear. I understand that. But what I'd like to do is to debate with everyone who is *different* from that. I know that such people are here because I have read articles from them. And I'd like to ask all those who cannot response in another way to not respond at all. I know that's disappointing to everyone who is - contrary to me - looking for a fight. But no matter how great the urge is to answer *anything* just to gain the illusion of having posted a valid retort: If there's no argument included, then it isn't even worth two cents.  Thanks.

PS: Don't worry about my mood, I already received a serious complaint about using too many smileys - just shortly after that same person mocked me for dismissing his attempts at teasing me. That alone will amuse me for quite a while

@Athene:  Maybe you aren't

@Athene:  Maybe you aren't a troll or a giant jackass.  If you aren't, just as a friendly bit of advice, you might want to consider how you communicate.

You really do come off as someone who is snide, rude, condescending, ego-driven, arrogant, childish...you get the idea.  The overall impression is of someone with a huge head who walks in with the express intent of propping up their ego by disagreeing with everything they see, and doing it in a way guaranteed to make people angry, and then laughing at the frustration you've caused.

Granted, you don't have to listen to anything anyone here tells you.  You can blow everyone off as stupid pricks who are jealous of your rationality and keep on trucking.  But things won't change.  You'll just be posting an endless series of crap that never gets the kinds of responses you *say* you want.

TL;dr: The way you post pisses people off.  If that is what you want, keep on posting in that way.  If you want to be constructive, communicate a different attitude and people will respond in a more constructive way.

Everything makes more sense now that I've stopped believing.

I do know this: Mellestad

I do know this: Mellestad tried to tell you in a mature way that you're being a jerk and as I knew you would, you come back with a lot of immaturity and don't even bother considering that people are really tired of you being a jerk.

It's one thing to be a smart ass but every response you've made so far has been in regards to you pissing people off. Where's this rationality you speak of? All we've seen is what a butthole you can be. You've done nothing but cut people down for what they think or believe. Real rational, yeah.

If all the Christians who have called other Christians " not really a Christian " were to vanish, there'd be no Christians left.

Nothing?  Not at all, ignorantly belittling people and insulting atheism at each turn has only been half of the content- the other half of his or her posts has been gracing us with repeated sad attempts at using logic to argue that logic isn't valid, while "creatively" re-inventing logic itself to be some kind of empirical observation, and demonstrating total ignorance of what rationalism is as opposed to empiricism.

I'm good with assholes- I can even respect that- it's idiots I have a hard time tolerating.  Now, both rolled up in the same package?  There's little worse.

This is a militant 'agnostic'- any militant 'agnostic'- almost by definition.

Even the theists largely purport to respect the basic axioms of logic (even if they don't have the capacity to consistently abide by them, at least they admit to the rules and have some slim hope of being shown reason), so I would be hard pressed to find any other kind of person who has so vehemently denied the very foundations of any conceivable rational discussion and as such so certainly closed off any avenue of fruitful debate.

These militant 'agnostics' can aspire to nothing more than being trolls, because by so thoroughly rejecting logic, they have rendered themselves incapable of anything else.  The act is tantamount to intellectual suicide, and as such these people are intellectually dead- no more than hollow vestiges of language and arrogance, without any legitimate capacity for thought or reason.

Short of the militancy and arrogance, these 'agnostic' types could be capable of learning and admitting their mistakes- after all, most of us were 'agnostic' at some point before realizing that position is untenable- but it seems obvious that such a capacity for that realization can't be expected in this case.

Well Blake, I spent a few

Well Blake, I spent a few weeks handling family stuff and I've been really busy so I haven't seen the other threads. I have only seen this part of him which has been a little nerve racking but I have been trying to ignore it. It just became blatenly clear when Mellestad tried to explain and he totally disregarded that this dude is trying to piss people off. My thing is that unless he becomes offensive, I'm just gonna ignore him.

Oh, you've done it now

Oh, you've done it now Blake.  Athene will call you irrational, and with a winky smiley even!

Maybe he'll (I'm making an assumption) even pull out the intellectual big guns and give you one of his "Pro-Tips" on how to sound smart....like stuffing qualia into sentences to impress the ladies?  Awe yea!

You just wait and see Blake, you'll rue the day you chose Athene as an enemy!

I was surprised with how civil you were, actually- not sure I could pull that off.

The other threads are pretty short (this particular troll hasn't really made that many replies)

Bob demolishes all of the 'arguments' presented- might be worth a read for a chuckle.

Seems like a nice enough kid, and he's studying science.  I hope I wasn't too hard on him:

Maybe that'll knock the crazy out of him?  Or was I too sarcastic?  I tried to tone it down big time and be as nice as I could, but it's hard when somebody is making such absurd absolutist claims about reality.

Mellestad is butthurt because he lacks rational arguments. That's quite awkward for the moderator of a website that is called "The Rational Response Squad - A place for activist atheists to unite." And he isn't the only one. However, the solution would be so easy: Si tacuisses, philosophus mansisses! But that requests to admit at least to oneself that one is actually inferior in regards of arguments, and that's something certain egos can't bear. Oh well, if they prefer to expose themselves, I won't stop them. I even asked them repeatedly not to post irrational responses, which is more than they deserve. Actually, now you guys get even funny again, especially Blake and you with your erratic attempts to fit me into your shallow schemes. Unintentionally funny, yes, but that doesn't matter. I'm tempted to shout that you keep up the crazed allegations, but I suspect that you'd then hijack every thread where I will post and turn it into a giant shitstorm On the other side, maybe you'll be doing that anyway, regardless of what I say.

Yeah, I know that some irrational people are really tired of me being rationally superior (which they make really easy, so in the absence of a challenge that's really nothing to be proud of). But what you don't get is that this won't change. All the whining, all the flaming will neither gain my esteem nor my pity, but my contempt at best. That means, if I even cared enough for that. After all, I see the desperation and insecurity, so I know where this primitive hostility comes from. As I said before: Shattering illusions is seldom a way to make friends. And haters gonna hate

rebecca.williamson wrote:

Wrong, that's only every response that you want to see. And that's your problem, your *symptom*, not mine Eye-wink I'm not stopping you from writing calm rational answers, so don't blame me for your own decisions and inadequacies. Even if you should not be a mentally mature person, I will still demand that you behave like one. Especially since you claim to *be* grown up. Oh, and in case you just thought of the physiological inevitability - that wasn't what I meant.

rebecca.williamson wrote:

My very existence is a sufficient rational retort to raging haters You didn't really expect a sophisticated argument in response to "Whaaa, I hate you for having better arguments!", did you? The retort for that cant is already included in your very complaint. Or did you actually think that was a valid contribution to a rational dispute? I certainly don't hope so, because then I would have judged matters by far too optimistically.

Now fall back into the eager mutual reassurance I've already diagnosed, according to which anyone who doesn't see things like you must be uneducated or deluded; you desperately need this to prevent any self-reflection or erosion of confidence. Oh wait, you are doing this already! Now how could I only know exactly what you were going to do? The world is full of miracles...

Indeed, I lack rational

Indeed, I lack rational arguments for disliking dupe posts.  The irrational horror of it all.  Your rational technique of ignoring existing threads to spam unrelated conversations with your drivel staggers my tiny intellect.  My illusions have *all been shattered* by your skilled rhetoric and inability to figure out if your questions have already been covered in other places, even when given clear direction.

You're amazing Athene.  Teach me.
