GENERAL CONVERSATION FLOODED WITH NON-GENERAL CONVERSATION
In an attempt to urge users to stop using the General Conversation forum for every post they make I have moved the General Conversation forum below the Religion forums. I have asked users in the past to please limit their usage of the General Conversation forum but we still have too many posts that belong elsewhere getting put into that forum. We want the General Conversation forum for smalltalk and any topic that doesn't fit anywhere else. For a trial run we are going to move the General Conversation forum much lower in the hierarchy to encourage you to post in a more appropriate forum. This will greatly help others find issues on the topics they are most interested in and encourage more participation in your threads.
Here are some tips:
If it has something to do with anything you find irrational it should go into the newly named "Irrationalities" forum (previously Irrational Precepts).
If it is something you'd like a theist to respond to or want to engage with a theist (or for theists to engage atheists) put it in "Atheist vs Theist"
If it is something about Karl Marx/Marxism/Economics, it goes in "Politics"
If it is a news article about something in a scientific field it can go in "News and Activism" or "Science."
If you want to engage in a soft discussion with the other side it should go in "Kill em with Kindness"
If it has anything at all to do with evolution it goes in "Evolution of Life"
If you don't give a shit what a theist would say about your topic then post it in "Freethinking Anonymous"
Please get re-acquainted with the various forums and look for a better place to put your post. We will be moving as many posts as we can in the near future to more appropriate forums. Use the "Recent Posts" option in the menu on the left to help find the most current posts.
Thanks for your help and cooperation! I'll be making some other small changes to help tidy the forums, I hope you enjoy!

I hate it when you get bored.
Shall I move the 5000 out of 5465 topics in General Convo that don't belong there, to cure my boredom? They have to be done one by one, it'll take me at least 2 months considering the amount of time I'm able to spend.

I just looked at the forum and do we really need to keep topics that are 5 years old?
Some yes, some no. I've always maintained that posts are safer here then elsewhere. That's important to me as I've had many of my posts lost on other forums that went boom. I've also seen people (ie hambydammit) lose all of their posts on sites like facebook. I always err on the side of leaving posts here because of those past promises.
When we move to the next upgrade of the forum it'll be easy to mass delete anything without a response, which is what I plan to do. That upgrade might be a while out though.

Back up to tape or CD or DVD? Put it in a vault? Guard dogs, concertina wire, armed guards? Fly overs by Black Hawks?
Okay, maybe over the top. Tossed in the back of the drawer of your desk is probably sufficient.

I've started to actually notate threads that are moved so that you can see what shouldn't be posted in General Convo and where it should've gone. Please take note. and make attempts to correct future postings.

I just tried my first thread move. I added a note in the title, and I think it might help, so people viewing each forum directly (as opposed to Recent Posts) can see that posts will be/should be moved to appropriate forums. Also, I left a shadow copy so that General Conversation also has a note about the specific forum it was moved to. I think it worked out well, but I'm wondering if shadow copies are the correct thing to do. Will they end up polluting the forum anyway? Can the shadows later be deleted en masse for periodic tidying up?

Gnu Atheism Facebook group — All gnu-friendly RRS members welcome (including Luminon!) — Try something gnu!
I'd rather if we avoid shadows. Shadow copies can not be deleted and therefore don't solve the problem.
You can edit the title if you want, but I think the post in the thread should be enough. The original poster is the person who needs to see their thread was moved as the op is the only offender, they are very likely to see it as most ops' will check all posts in their threads. If you think it's important to edit the title though, feel free... I'm sticking to my method.
Thanks for the move! I'm going to try and send another 100 posts out of general convo sometime in the next 24 hours.
