Actually I have been intending to post a review of the movie but haven't gotten around to it yet. It was poorly done. Unless you were extremely familiar with the book you would have no clue what was going on, and if you are familiar with the book you would find it irritating how quickly the movie skipped pass important parts. I have been telling people not to go see it. So save your money everyone. Go buy the book.
Of course, the positive part is that you can get the theater virtually to yourself, there was only one other group of people there (who also thought the movie was bad). I contented myself with being distracted from the movie by my date. Kind of felt sorry for the waitress though.
See, the difference between us libertarian types and the Inconvenient Truth or the Passion of the Christ crowd is that when a movie is bad, we aren't going to tell all our friends to see it and go see it a dozen times ourselves anyway. When it comes to hard earned money, we will throw our ideological allies under the bus if they do a crap job. We expect perfection damnit.
If, if a white man puts his arm around me voluntarily, that's brotherhood. But if you - if you hold a gun on him and make him embrace me and pretend to be friendly or brotherly toward me, then that's not brotherhood, that's hypocrisy.- Malcolm X
Passion? You mean the 'Jesus Chainsaw Massacre'? I fucking loved that movie, but not in the way most people did
“A meritocratic society is one in which inequalities of wealth and social position solely reflect the unequal distribution of merit or skills amongst human beings, or are based upon factors beyond human control, for example luck or chance. Such a society is socially just because individuals are judged not by their gender, the colour of their skin or their religion, but according to their talents and willingness to work, or on what Martin Luther King called 'the content of their character'. By extension, social equality is unjust because it treats unequal individuals equally.” "Political Ideologies" by Andrew Heywood (2003)
The conservative radio station that I listen to seemed to have nothing but great things to say about the movie. In fact they were reporting that the theatres that did show the movie (as it had a very limited showing) were packed to the brim with everyone in agreeance that it was an awesome movie. Then again, conservatives often have a way of really fudging the truth. And as far as her views regarding religion and god, most conservatives seem capable of a great deal of compartmentalization and don't seem to have any problem with SE Cupp.
If you use the bible as your moral compass, chances are you're lost.
When Jesus said "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" he wasn't saying that people shouldn't be stoned. He was requesting the first pitch.
MovieBob on the Escapist magazine reviewed it too, and kind of said the same Beyond Saving said.
I have only seen half of the Passion: I was like 12 when it came out. Gotta love that people enjoy seeing Jesus being beaten up, though.
There was this guy on YouTube who compared the amount the Passion made versus that amount all other Jesus films (without blood) made, and all of them together didn't even make a fifth of what the Passion made, if I remember correctly.
