Anybody else having Firefox issues?
When I'm using firefox, and open new tabs, it runs rather slow, and sometimes it even stops and I even lose my internet connection.
I'm using a router as well, so I don't know if the issue is with the router or firerfox or my laptop or anything.

The only problem I've had is the inability to block out certain html headaches; popup boxes asking for confirmation to leave a page I didn't navigate towards, pages that show an animation pretending to scan my hdd for virus-trojans, etc.
The ish could very well be with the router, if it has a crap list of ports to block. Some of what you describe sounds like a port needs to be opened up.

When I had Firefox, I never really had any good luck with it. Similiar issues to what Kapkao was describing and all sorts of other headaches.

Ok how do I do that?
Did you update to 4.0.1?
LOL. I had pop up ads and all sorts of headaches just when I was checking yahoo mail. But, when it comes to porn, I'll just plead the fifth amendment.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.17 on Windows XP support pack 3.
I have it set to not use tabs. Ever.
Firefox isn't slow on my computer. I don't have zillions of pop ups - or even any pop ups.
Go to Windows Update and make sure you have all the latest security updates. You will need to use Internet Explorer to run it. It's under Tools on the IE menu.
Then, if you want to upgrade Firefox to version 4, go to www.firefox.com and right on the front page, you can download the new version.
For security issues, I have an add on, NoScript, installed. It can be a pain, because it starts by turning off all - and I mean all - of the scripts on web pages. Which means if you want videos to run or pop ups to pop, or any scripts on a web page to run, you have to tell it to do so. Very restrictive, but I don't have security issues, malware, software I don't want installed by some web page without I give it permission and so on.
If you open Tools, Add-ons, you can see what add-ons are already installed. If you click on Get Add-ons, it will show the "recommended" list. Click on the Browse All Add-ons on the upper right of that window instead. Which gets you to the all of the add-ons page. On the left is a link for Privacy and Security. Click on that.
And from there you can decide whether you want to go with a really restrictive script blocker like NoScript or you can pick something you find more friendly. I also have AdBlock Plus installed. Good bye annoying ads. All of them - except I allowed the ones for Amazon on the RRS website even if I don't have money at the moment to go shopping.
Anyway, good luck, happy computing.

Now I have Chrome...
Depends on the router. The ones I've used have a standard webpage to setup their options... (it won't be on the internet ANYWHERE, but it will be page that hooks you up to your device. It looks like an internet address rather than a URL.)

Yes
I don't like the No script because I watch a lot of videos online. I use adblock I also have TTI image and am waiting for linkification to upgrade on the new Firefox.
How is it?
I know how to get into it, I just don't know which settings to change
OK, before you go changing anything in your router, take a step back and a deep breath. Let's see if we can figure out what is going on before making any changes.
How long has this been going on?
Are we looking at something that just started or has it been going on for a while? If it is fairly new, can you think of any changes which you might have made to your system?
Have you done any recent software updates such as for firefox itself, your antivirus/spyware blocker or fire wall?
Those would all be kind of obvious possible culprits. Past that, what O/S and what software/versions do you have for all of the above?
Do me another favor and do a search for files in your O/S folders which match the string “hosts” (without the quotes). What I am looking for could be some variant of that such as lmhosts but it will contain the string “hosts” in the file name. Tell me the name of any files like that that you find and the exact names of any folders you find them in, along with the size of the files.
In all honesty, if you don't have any idea how to change your router settings, then it is not very likely that you did that without realizing it.
Also, don't bother trying to download any extra goodies for firefox right now. That would complicate matters at the moment. Really, the closer you can keep it to the situation you are having trouble with, the better. When we figure out what the problem is and actually get it fixed, then I have a specific set of additions that I would suggest you get. That will come in due time though.
If it is really annoying you to no end at the moment, try downloading a different browser such as seamonkey or opera. Better to stay away from chrome if you like your privacy though (there is a safe version of chrome but that is actually a slightly different product and not quite perfect in every way).

If you're using linux you can get the GNU version. It's called icecat.
I don't know what you've done so far but if you need to check if your addons are causing the problem, you know there's an option under help to restart with addons disabled.

I agree with not changing the router settings. Look for something simpler - how much free space do you have on your hard drive? Have you cleaned out your temp files recently? If you have less than 20% of your hard drive free, it will seriously slow down your computer.
Check with your isp - do they mention any problems on their web site? If they have servers or networks down, that is going to slow down your internet access whatever browser you use.

Firefox also stopped working for me. Updates or reinstalls didn't help, the problem was somewhere deeper in registers, documents, settings or something. So I just migrated to Chrome.
I had shitload of add-ons, tabs, bookmarks... Most of that could be just loaded from Firefox with no problems. But I had to search for suitable add-on replacements, like tab management, translation of a word on click or darkening of screen background. But now I have all of these. Chrome is considerably more stable, better said, if Chrome freezes, it freezes only one tab. The rest are separate processes.
The only thing I resent is, that Chrome seems to be quite impervious to download managers, which I need sometimes.

I've found that problems with Firefox are often an issue with a plugin or application extension. A long time ago I changed PDFs and QuickTime movies to always download and never display in the browser itself. This solved 90% of my Firefox problems.
Another time I had to remove the Alexa plugin because it was super-slowing me down on a slow connection, since it required querying alexa.com every time I visited a page, and I often have sessions going with hundreds of tabs open (a personal quirk, akin to an extremely messy desk), so that meant every time I started up Firefox I had to wait like 2 or 3 minutes before I could actually browse anything. I recently put the Alexa plugin back in because I found a great plugin called Read It Later which helps me to close extra tabs without feeling I'm going to 'lose' something important I want to read.
If you want to keep Firefox, and really want to find out the problem. The best way is the tried-and-true debugging technique of starting from scratch and adding bits of code back in.
First, get a fresh, no-plugin install of FF. Test that for about a week. Then, add the plugin you miss the most. Test that for a while and see if any problems crop up. Then add another, etc. My guess is that you'll find one plugin that is the culprit.
About the router: Try your laptop somewhere where there's free WiFi and see if FF still acts up. If it doesn't, then the problem is the router, but if it still does, obviously it's not the router.

ME has problms with ffox.
I switched to firefox 2 long ago from opera simply because I lost this last one. Then because of the continued losing of the browser (for various reasons: pc crash, space problems, oops I deleted it...) then I downloaded firefox again and again so I had to upgrade everytime to a newer version.
I was too lazy to do something about it, but I always complained that there is no button to disable images loading. I mean, I could take a plugin to remove scripts, images or what on the fly, and sometimes I did it, but opera did have it standard.
Also it disappointed me that firefox has not a way to arrange the windows automatically like opera does.
But what angers me is that it is slow. Now, I have a good pc, a exacore with 8GB ram, so there aren't problems. But on my pc I can't connect to any type of net, so I have to use other computers. And here comes the troubles, because firefox sometimes is simply sssslllloooowww, sometimes it simply hangs the computer for half-minute at time, or more.
Before you ask, yes, it's upgraded, and no, there are not plugins. I insist, I sincerely think firefox 2, for me, was better. I surfed, with it, even with 50 tabs. At most what I would have to do today is change the agent string in about:config because some idiot wants you to use a more recent browser.
Now it's not that I don't respect FF, but I am asking myself: "what are they doing"? How could it give these problems on an athlon 64 3400+? Because that, for now, is the cpu on which it runs. Nonsense. No antivirus, before you ask. And no viruses, before you imply something. Because I know. Maybe it's because of the single core, maybe it's for win xp. Don't know, but precedent versions (before v4 and v5), although imperfect and categorically simpler, did a 'better' job.

Porn is bad.
Anyway lest the thread be forgotten, I have to underline another problem FFox has, and it is one with THIS site, RRS: simply as it is, when I save the threads and then reopen it the style is not applied. The page is white, no boxes, no nothing.
Just to turn the knife in the wound, I have evidence that IE saves the pages correctly.
