The Rational Response Squad is a group of atheist activists who impact society by changing the way we view god belief. This site is a haven for those who are pushing back against the norm, and a place for believers of gods to have their beliefs exposed as false should they want to try their hand at confronting us. Is there any hope for the fundamentalist? My father is one and his extreme religious views are ruining our family. He does not view the marriage between himself and my mother as an equal partnership, but rather as a hierarchy in which he is at the top. He is constantly spreading misinformation about evolution on facebook, at home, and at the church where he is the Sunday school teacher. When I try to explain this to him he gets upset and tells me that I've been told lies and to not "lean on my own understanding". I think he is deeply depressed, mainly because he believes all of his loved ones are hell-bound. No amount of reason I've been able to give him can penetrate him. Is there any hope? I can't stand to see him carry out his life this way.
Has anyone been able to successfully convert a fundamentalist? What arguments did you use? What arguments WOULD you use? Thanks in advance.
