It Must Have Been, By Brian37

It Must Have Been, By Brian37

It must have been
The sun above
That brought
The pharaoh's fortune

It must have been
Apollo
Who looked down
On ancient Rome

The fertile land
From volcanic ash
Was produced
By sacrifice

It must have been
That congealed blood
That Allah made
Picking the sex of the baby

It must be
Mountains moving
Proving the existence
Of Abraham's deity

It must have been
It must have been
It must have been
Human anthropomorphism

Selection bias
On the presumption
By proxy
Of naked assertion

It must have been
It has to be
For if not such
They cannot cope

The future
Not kind to superstition
It gives sway
To death or revision

But never it will
Be that of thoughts
Occurring without
A material process

Thus the words
"entity or deity
Super natural"
Are absurdities

It must have been
It never was
It must have been
It never will be

The only thing
It ever was
Imagining
Invisible friends

A reflection
Of our desires
An infant's desire
To be protected by parents

It must have been
It never was
It must have been
It will never be

The only thing
We can do
As a species
Is face reality
